Åpent Forum presenterer: Anders Smebye

Backbone of the night
Backbone of the night

Smebyes projects take their starting point from dramatic, violent or
catastrophic events. They appear as documentation of intensive moments
in time; situations that triggers a state of emergency. Smebye often
comments on the diffuse borders between science and fiction.
Historical elements are scrutinized, and recontextualized to question
established thruths. His work ends up as dysfunctional representations
with a discharged symbolism.

Anders Smebye is an artist and independent curator. He has a special
interest in genre bending expressions and projects that challenges
structural conventions.
His main focus has recently been on text, textile, sculpture and video.
Smebye has in the last years made himself noticed on the national
artscene through his work with the projectspace Bastard in Oslo, and
as a curator of Robert Smithson at Fotogalleriet (co-curated with Lina
Viste Grønli), and Monumento Mori at Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern
Art during the group exhibition Lights On. He is currently having a
soloshow, Devolution, at UKS in Oslo.
