The mausoleum is one of Oslo’s best kept secrets, covered in fresco paintings and including the ashes of the artist, it also has a 20 second natural delay.

“Boe does not use any external effects like delays or reverbs when he performs. Thus he prefers playing an acoustic laptop and various objects in as diverse rooms as possible, because the various qualities of the rooms – size, architecture, building materials – obviously change the sound experience radically. Sometime he record his concert in one room one night and use that as playback in a different room the next, Alvin Lucier style. This makes the rooms themselves become an effect box.”

“My starting point is a totally uninformed fascination for the very sound in it self, as it is. As with the one following it and the one leading up to it, and not at least the many that emerge alongside it.”

“Two sounds after each other or appearing similarly might sound off in our ears, out of tune we say, disharmonic. Between them the sounds don’t give shit, as these things are part of the cultural programming of us as listeners. Many have pointed to the zen aspect of sounds seen this way, but me as a sound worker, well, I am not that much into green tea and tofu.”
