Compositions - A Candid Photography Exhibition by Blank Space

[Bilde]

On Friday May 9th, 2014 Blank Space is opening its newest show, Compositions, featuring photographic works from Norwegian and international artists from 18:00 – 21:00. This show emphasizes the critical eye photographers develop in their daily lives as artists. Refreshments will be served. The exhibition will be showing on weekends until June 29th.

About Compositions –

Artists live a different life, full of different rules, constraints, and abilities. They see things differently – simple actions that others would gloss over become experiments in observation. Waiting for the bus isn’t a tedious task for an artist; it morphs into an exercise of analysis (Why does that woman stand so far away from everyone else? Why does no one look at the man talking to himself? How does this reflection through the glass mimic the reality behind it? Notice how those trees bend in a different direction than the wind is blowing….) Ordering a coffee, walking to work, perusing the newspaper stand – all mundane tasks become fantastic in an artist’s eyes. Colors are more vibrant, diagonals point to interesting intersections, and lone discarded objects suddenly become relevant when viewed by an artist.

In this show we explain visually the fundamental differences between artists and non-artists: The way they perceive life as if consistently through a lens. Photographers from Norway and around the world have been selected to submit photos that bring this awareness to realization so that others can understand the beauty, if not curse, of being an artist for a day. Minimally and unedited photos will be on display so that audiences can begin to feel the raw beauty of life around them and take this awakening with them for the rest of their lives.

Artists highlighted in this show include both domestic Norwegian and international artists, such as Andreas Helland, Jose del Castillo, Lauren Cassidy, Cristian Quezada, and Kevin Blagrave.

About blankspace –

blankspace is an artist run facility that strives to fill the gaps present in the art world today, from artist to buyer as well as artwork to audience. They strive to open back up the transference of ideas from outsiders and strike down the exclusivity of art. While currently functioning primarily as a gallery that focuses on contemporary applications of traditional skills, they also offer workshops and classes to anyone, beginner or master, wanting to understand the craft better. In the future, they hope to expand to offer a full printing / painting studio to the public, as well as offer full-time courses in various fields of art. They will host discussions, lectures, and special exhibits from special artists across the world.

They are located 5 minutes from Oslo S by bus, in the up and coming district of Kværnerbyen.
