The Soft Touch: MORTEZA VASEGHI UTSTILLING

[Bilde]

Opening: Saturday 10th May 2014

8.5.14 – 5.6.14

“THE SOFT TOUCH,

IMAGINE YOU HAVE A STRIP OF PAPER, WHITE AT THE START AND FADING TO BLACK AT THE END, WITH INFINITE SHADES OF GREY IN BETWEEN. NOW IF YOU BEND THIS STRIP OF PAPER TO MAKE A RING YOU HAVE BLACK AND WHITE SITTING BESIDE EACH OTHER.

LET’S IGNORE THE GREYS AND JUST FOCUS ON THE BLACK AND WHITE BESIDE EACH OTHER; THE MEETING OF THE TWO CONTRASTS, THE OPPOSITES.

THIS BODY OF WORK FOCUSES ON BRINGING THE CONTRASTING ELEMENTS INTO ONE PLACE, WHICH SOMETIMES CAN BE VERY IRONIC AND LITERAL AND AT OTHER TIMES VERY ABSTRACT.”

- Morteza Vaseghi

The Soft Touch brings together a collection of recent screen prints completed by Vaseghi within the last year. Taking inspirations from conceptualism with touches of surrealism at times, Vaseghi likes to work in two different mindsets of creativity. This can be conservative, strict graphic work or at other times can be conceptual and experimental, bordering more on art than graphic design.

Vaseghi, born 1982 in Iran, completed a Bachelors with honours in Graphics and Media Design at London College of Communication, University of the Arts. Currently Vaseghi is based in Oslo and is working as a freelancer doing media and graphic design.
