Oi dæven. Hadde nesten glemt å opplyse folket at RETRO nok en gang får besøk av en vaskeekte legende fra Amerika. Denne gangen er det ingen ringere enn selveste Roy Davis Jr. Du vet(burde) han som bl.a lagde den tidløse og magiske låta “Gabriel” med Peven Everett på midten av nittitallet. Du tenker kanskje; “Hva så hva en eller annen dude lagde for 18 år siden”, men han kællen her er slettes ikke rusten. Har holdt det gående i alle år nå og leverer fortsatt tette utgivelser med høy kvalitet. Siste var faktisk singelen “Slide” med godeste Robert Owens på vokal. Dere vet, han som satte Jaeger på hodet under RETROs øyanatt i år og som leverte kanskje det feteste settet vi har hørt på Jaeger noen sinne. Roy Davis Jr. is, in no uncertain terms, a legendary DJ and producer from Chicago who has helped to define electronic music. His self titled soul-electronica sound is a hybrid of garage, disco, r&b, house, hip hop and soul and it has graced everything from underground imprints to major league labels since way back in the 1990′s, including the likes of Defected, Strictly Rhythm, King Street Sounds, XL Recordings and Universal, Sony and Warner Brothers.

As a DJ Roy Davis Jr. commands dancefloors and festival stages all over the world with his tight and masterful mixing at places like Smart Bar in Chicago, Yellow in Japan and Fabric in London. Initially turned on to the possibilities of dance music by DJ Pierre, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Marshall Jefferson, and Lil’ Louis, Roy started spinning himself at the age of 12 and during the early 19902 was asked to work as and A&R scout for Strictly Rhythm in New York. Of course, you can’t mention Roy Davis Jr. without mentioning “Gabriel,” released in 1996 on Large Music out of Chicago, Gabriel was tune of the year and still fetches high prices on Discogs today.

Since then Roy has penned or appeared on chart-topping releases for those including Eric Benet/Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, Seal and Morcheeba, and has had his own highly rated Chicago Urban House Radio show on Scion 17 for over 3 years. His original productions and remix work garnered rave reviews in such publications as Rolling Stone, URB, Flaunt and Vibe and many more. In April 2014 Roy will release his latest full length, Destroy and Rebuild, on Mile End and Soul Electric Records. Featuring vocals from people like the hallowed Robert Owens, it is yet another exciting new chapter in the ever evolving story that is Roy Davis Jr.
