Three Chords of Thunder - Norbert Putnam in conversation with Fiona Talkington (BBC)

There aren’t many of us who can say “I dropped everything and flew to Memphis”, but when the King beckons, that’s what you do.
Being a part of the magic surrounding Elvis Presley and the shaping of a new musical era record producer and musician Norbert Putnam has more than a lifetime’s stories to tell. Add to that just some of the other names he’s worked with – Joan Baez, Linda Ronstadt, Tony Joe White, Roy Orbison, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Monkees, Donovan and so many more, and there’s the promise of stories that peel back the layers of history.

But this is far from being a trip down memory lane. One of the world’s most respected record producers is in Norway because of the adventurous spirit of Oslo-based singer Lisa Dillan whose own work takes her in many directions, but falling in love with the music of Elvis in 1977 led to her acclaimed Quite Quiet project which included an unforgettable trip to the historic RCA studio B to meet and play with some of Elvis’s musicians.

Fiona Talkington presents the BBC’s award winning radio show ‘Late Junction’. During her 25 years presenting for the BBC her work has taken her to ragtime festivals in Missouri and Hungary, to chamber music events in Finland, world music festivals and folk festivals. She’s a regular visitor to Norway where she has curated series of concerts for Nasjonal Jazzscene and for Riksscenen, and she has been a part of the Punkt Festival (Live Remix) in Kristiansand since
it began in 2005.
