ODDNOSE FESTIVAL 2016 – Søndag 5 juni er en en-dags festival. Dette er det tredje året Oddnose festivalen arrangeres i samarbeid med Hellviktangen kulturhus. “festivalen for de med nese for særegen musikk”. Vi inviterer musikere fra sjangre som ikke er så lett å definere, det er musikk med særpreg og hvor individets eller bandets identitet og integritet er viktigere enn å nå frem til et bredt publikum. Dette er musikere som er villige til å flytte musikalske grenser. Du kan ligge i gresset og høre på vakker indisk sarod musikk, svømme og flyte til de atmosfærisk tonene til Europ Europ eller Hypnotic Feminism, Spise økologisk mat og lytte til Jarle Vespestad og Hilde Marie Holsen’s første samarbeidsprosjekt. Bli introdusert til Sanfransico’s undergrunnslegender GMS og Common Eider, King Eider, reise internt til sternene med Spectral Haze. Og til sist svinge kroppen til musikk av ypperste klasse fra vinyl-DJer. I de nydelige omgivelsene rett ved sjøen.

Last year was a great success with the amazing Charles Hayward (this heat) headlining. This years festival is focused on keeping it intimate and exciting musically. The performers and DJ´s confirmed so far are all amazing. We continue to use the beautiful Hellviktangen as our exotic bay location. Last year was a wee bit chilly in may.. so this years festival is to be held in early june (05.6.16) so book the date!! and bring bathing costumes and your shades..

Hilde Marie Holsen is a singularly talented new artist
in the improvised music scene. A young trumpet and electronics improviser who also plays in the bands Chrimari and Hå!Olsen. Hilde Marie hails from Vassenden in Jølster but resides in Oslo. All the electronic sounds are being made of live processed trumpet sounds. The last year has been a particularly busy and significant one in Holsen’s development as a solo performer and composer: in addition to releasing Ask (A bewitching balance of melancholic melodies and novel clusters of unworldly sounds) and getting more acclaim than any debut should expect, she was awarded an MA in performed music technology from the Norwegian Academy of Music and has become a regular fixture within Oslo’s fertile experimental music scene.

San Francisco drone/ambient/folk troupe Common Eider, King Eider are on a quest to build a temple in the wilds of Alaska, Why not. Common Eider, King Eider are a band that highlights a number of underground talents, most notably that of Rob Fisk. Rob Fisk and Greg Saunier founded the band Deerhoof in San Francisco in 1994 as an improvisation duo of bass and drums. His other projects of note are Badgerlore ( with tom carter and ben chasney) seven year rabbit cycle and Nitre Pit. With all of rob’s projects there is always a natural balance between beautiful haunting melodic parts and the ragged glory of experimentation.

Lazy critics are always happy to blow Hawkwind meets Black Sabbath smoke rings towards Oslo’s majestic Spectral Haze.
Expect stoned heavy groove laden doom with psyched out magik rituals. When the psychoactive drugs wear off Spectral Haze will still keep soaring.

Bidushi Sudeshna Bhattacharya (in)

Sudeshna is a musician, playing the rich tradition of north Indian classical music. Her instrument is the sarod. The more than one meter long, nineteen strings sarod is a descendant of a mid-Asian instrument, the rabab. Modified seven generation ago to better suit Indian music. legendary sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was greatly impressed with Sudeshna´s dedication. Sudeshna will play a solo sarod set.

Dette blir en konsert med vakker musikk fra en utrolig dyktige og kreativ
kunstner. Sudeshna begynte og lære sarod i en alder av fire, og opptre i en alder av syv. Hun turnerer i dag store deler av verden samtidig som hun er universitetslektor i indisk musikk. Hun har opptrådt på tv og i radio, og har vunnet flere priser. Med sine komposisjoner,
improvisasjoner, mikrotoner, instrumenter og spiritualitet er den flere
tusen år gamle indiske klassiske musikken noe som vekker interesse hos
mange og inspirerer mange vestlige musikere og musikkinteresserte.

GMS (yellow swans/usa)

Gabriel Saloamon is most known for his work as half of the Portland based noise group Yellow Swans. A Vancouver based musician and artist who has been performing experimental, conceptual and freely improvised music for over 15 years. He currently composes and performs solo as GMS and Sade Sade. He also collaborates with Aja Rose Bond under the name Diadem and with MRed as Chambers.

Andre Borgen (no)

Andre AKA Mr Norweirdian will sing, not scream, and strum an amplified Telecaster electric guitar backed by bedroom tape-cassette-music and speaker-hum at the great Oddnose Hippie Festival 2016. He is not, and will never play any songs from his brand new album HOW (soon out), don’t ask why.
