Oslo Apiary & Aviary: Bread Pikes - Human Scarecrows 2.0

BREAD PIKES
═══════════════════════════
a performance and workshop by Oslo Apiary & Aviary
═══════════════════════════

As an alternative to avian hostile scarecrow tactics, OAA would suggest the action and workshop BREAD PIKES. Here we will sharpen pikes, but instead of stabbing at someone, we will stick the pikes into the ground. At the opposite end we will bake stick-bread (pinnebrød) using a seed heavy sticky dough. These will put in the field around the apiary & aviary to ‘bribe the birds’ to keep them of the crops. The method we will use for making these functional sculptures is called ‘baking’, it involves a technique called ‘making a fire’ that has been around for between 200.000-2.000.000 years, but is becoming more and more sparse in the Western hemisphere.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
═══════════════════════════
► Oslo Apiary & Aviary (a play of words on “the birds and the bees”) has existed since 2013 when it evolved from Marius Presterud (b. 1980) and Mikkel Dagestad´s (b. 1990) shared interest in work esthetics, anthropocenic implications, Situationism and immersed observation of the systems of exchange that make up every-day city life.
► A consistent line running through their work is a focus on the performative quality of the separation of urbanity-nature, as well as the private-public domains. They explore these themes through a brand that mimics contemporary eco-service providers, capitalizing on green optimism and shared space.

ABOUT HUMAN SCARECROWS 2.0
═══════════════════════════
► For the second year, Human Scarecrows’ series of non-eventful moments will suggest performative rituals allowing a dialogue with the birds to prevent them from eating the seeds. Rather than chasing them away, we aim to engage a dialogue and distract them by any means: they will be the true spectators.
All the performances and actions will be using alternative technologies as source of power and will be activated in between sunsets and sunrises.
► Human Scarecrows 2.0 is taking place everyday at 5pm at Flatbread Society from the 9th to the 16th of June.
Scarecrows expected on site are : Dimitri Lurie & Vera Mokhova • Ethan Rafal • Kimvi Nguyen • Det Elektriske Korps • ronnie s • Daniela Müller, Maria Belic & Per Westerlund • Oslo Apiary & Aviary • Aksel Høgenhaug • WeAreWorms •
► Human Scarecrows is uncurated by vandaler forening, commissioned by Flatbread Society and made possible with the great support of Futurefarmers and PNEK.
