Hugo Race er en produktiv visjonær – utøvende artist, musiker, forfatter og produsent. Opprinnelig fra Melbourne, Australia, har Hugos kreative reise gitt ham status som ‘verdensborger,’ etter å ha levd i løpet av de siste 25 årene i Italia, Frankrike, Tyskland, Storbritannia og USA. Låtskrivingsprosessen hans inspireres av alt i fra pop-kultur og rock n’ roll til soul til delta-blues samt avant-garde elektroniske lydbilder.
En av grunnleggerne av bandet Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (han dukker opp på debuten, “From Her to Eternity”, også på flere andre Bad Seed skiver og diverse samleplater), Hugo deretter grunnla det australske art-punk kultbandet The Wreckery (1985).

Road Series is both love story and elegy, a true and revealing tale. Renowned musician Hugo Race’s evocations of Melbourne, Europe and the USA, Berlin and Eastern Europe, Italy, Brazil and Mali and Africa are poetic and searching , always incisive and exquisitely written. While the idea of being a global citizen is explored as a creative force for the artist, this is ultimately a book that is grounded in the rich possibilities of the everyday. Music and travel collide and coalesce, and the reader is given rare insights into what it means to devote one’s life to the musical journey, to traverse the world in search of true spirit. While Road Series parallels Kerouac’s journey of ‘battered suitcases’ and ‘longer ways to go’ it also wonderfully bears witness to his realisation that ‘the road is life’.

MER OM HUGO RACE
Hugo Races nåværende utgivelser er “24 Hours To Nowhere” (LP), “Fatalists” (EP) og albumet “We Never Had Control” (2013), ble spilt inn i lag med italienerne Sacri Cuori, og lansert via Hugos australsk label Rough Velvet Records og de internasjonale partnere Interbang Records (Italia) og Gusstaff Records (Polen).
Etter de internasjonalt anerkjente skivene “BKO” og “Troubles” av Dirtmusic (innspilt i Mali, Afrika og utgitt av Glitterhouse Records i 2010), lanserte Hugo og Chris Eckman enda en Dirtmusic album som heter “Lion City” (også spilt inn i Bamako, Mali) via Glitterbeat i mars 2014.
Tidlig i 2013 kom også den etterlengtede tredje utgaven av den italienske prosjektet Sepiatone, (‘Echoes On’through Rough Velvet / Interbang Records).
Andre nye utgivelser inkluderer Fatalists (2010), den elektro-akustisk instrumental Between Hemispheres (Gusstaff Records / MGM), og den fransk / USA ‘alt-country’ skiva “Felt”, skapt av 16 Horsepowers bassist Pascal Humbert via musikkprosjektet Lilium, (Glitterhouse, Tyskland).
Med sin trans-kontinentale kollektiv The True Spirit og hans svært ulike produksjoner og samarbeid, forbipasserer Hugo Race enkle musikksjangler og har etablert en unik og personlig kreativ territorium.
