Flatbread Society Full Moon Gathering: Anne Cecilie Lie

[Bilde]

Flatbread Society is a project initiated and rooted in Oslo by the international artist collective Futurefarmers as a public art program for Bjørvika, in 2013. The project is commissioned and produced by Bjørvika Utvikling in collaboration with local artists and with funding from Statens Vegvesen Region øst.

Flatbread Society Full Moon Gatherings is a monthly event that happens at Losæter, Oslo. Losæter is envisioned as a cultural institution, a demonstration saeter and a competence center for urban gardening. An attempted commons in the Bjørvika area of Oslo, where ecological food production goes hand in hand with architecture, education, art and food culture.

Anne Cecilie Lie will be hosting this years second Flatbread Society Full Moon Gathering. She will present research and preliminary sketches for her master project in scenography, which will be shown at Vitenparken in Ås, on the Campus of the Norwegian University of Life Science (NMBU) in September 2018.

N.B. Please be considerate of your ’attending/not attending’-status, as we will try to make food accordingly.

From spheres to entangled in the mess/mud/mesh,
(re)Mediation

To work with sound-walks and eco-ventions, is a way of trying to reconfigure ideas of the place and site of Ås Campus. Interconnecting the history and content of the neoclassical Campus park and the university (formerly the university of agriculture); its relation to food production, part of the Norwegian identity and competence building during the country break for independence, ecological profile and focus on biodiversity, differs from the current research projects and educational focus and the built structures of the park. Linking landscape planning, soundscapes and acoustic ecology, environmental research and questions regarding future livability, Lie will also discuss current issues of the Anthropocene, with mycelial networking, odd collaborations, Bruno Latour´s spheres, Timothy Morton´s Dark Ecology and Mesh Beings, Anna Tsing´s Arts of dying on a damaged planet, as well as Donna Haraway’s tentacular thinking among others as a framework for looking for possible futures.

Sound can be a shared space, a personal space, highly ephemeral and physical at the same time, an alternative landscape, opening up new possibilities and fabulations. Two third of all the species on this planet is not seen with the naked eye, and thus can be more easily ignored, or underestimated. Sound can open up unseen landscapes and build ephemeral, heterotopic and utopic worlds.

Relating the project to Losæters Flatbread Society, we will further discuss food production, urban and rural landscapes, making common spaces, opening up and regarding non-human spaces, the interconnected web of the mycelium, working with odd partners, resisting Capitalism with the big C, against human exceptionalism – but rich in humus, tentacular thinking with hands in the soil making resurging ecologies for soil remediation and biodiversity on all levels. Asking who are we making space for. Having our hands in all processes, the idea is not to pull out, but to continue, but do so caringly, responsibly, against privatization, spherical, autopoetic and monocultural thought. Losæter is an important contribution to this discussion and resistance, in a highly politically potent area. Let’s also bring this into the discussion.

Our ecological challenges question us to mesh multispecies storytelling and practices of companions with speculative fabulation, science fact, science fiction, speculative feminism and string figures. A New Moon marks the beginning of a new cycle, a fresh start in its cycle of waxing and waning. During this time the Moon is empty and receptive and full of potential. This is an optimum time to plant seeds of intentions for what you wish to manifest in your life. The perfect time to discuss our future endeavors.

Food with a tentacular touch and inspired by the Full Moon will be served, combining the flatbread inspired (spherical) moon-shape of the pancake with the tentacular communication networks of the mycelium and its tasty fruits; mushrooms.

Looking forward to discussing the project and research further with you all on the 2th of march!
