Performance Voyage 7: Protest Song Competition!

Performance Voyage 7, an international collection of video performances produced by Artists’ Association MUU, Finland, will be screened at Kunstplass. Performance Voyage 7, with theme Protest Song Competition! includes works from 18 international artists / groups who explore the political situation and frustrations, the contemporary or future form of the protest song. What is wrong? What are you frustrated with? The political situation? Your next door neighbour? Your own life? The exhibition at Kunstplass will include live performances by Kikka Rytkönen and Heidi Kilpeläinen at the opening on 9th March.

The Performance Voyage, series of international video performances created for the camera, has been produced annually by MUU galleria – Helsinki, Finland since 2011. Taking the video performance collection on a worldwide tour is a new way to introduce the artists and their works. The tour ables to spread the artists’ networks, working possibilities and increase their reputation as performance artists. One of the key aims of the Performance Voyage series is to record and document ephemeral performances and thereby extend their lifespan.

Artists’ Association MUU is an artist run, Finnish interdisciplinary artist association, founded in 1987 to represent and promote new and experimental forms of art. These are such as media art, performance, video, environmental, space and conceptual art, sound and other experimental modes of cultural production.

The aims of MUU are to develop the collaboration and interchange of artists working within different fields, to produce projects, events, seminars and exhibitions of the MUU (“the Other”) art fields and to arouse cultural political discussion. MUU operates with Finnish and international cultural and educational organizations. In December 2018 MUU has 650 professional artist members based in Finland.

Kunstplass welcomes you to this year’s Human International Film festival’s exhibition PROTEST FACTORY consisting of several intertwined cultural events. Protest Factory is inspired by the HUMAN international film festival, Ibsen Women, #Metoo and is a revolt and protest against all the world’s brutal wars and conflicts, global warming, racism, xenophobia and homophobia.

Kunstplass is for the 7th consecutive year organizing an exhibition along-side the film festival. Protest Factory is organized in collaboration with the artists, The Finish Artists’ Association MUU and Visjoner Teater / Juni Dahr. As part Protest Factory Kunstplass and Vision Theater organize a cultural celebration on the International Women’s Day’s at Sentralen on 8th March – see: Kulturaften på den internasjonale kvinnedagen.
