Introduction to Modern Kadampa Buddhism

[Bilde]

The Buddhist way of life – peace, contentment, loving kindness and wisdom – is just as relevant today as it was when Buddha appeared in ancient India.

At our centre we practice an unbroken lineage of wisdom coming directly from Buddha Shakyamuni through the ancient Kadampa teachers Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa and introduced into the West by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. However many aspects of the presentation of these teachings are uniquely modern.

In this course we will have the opportunity to explore some of the essential practices and concepts of modern Kadampa Buddhism. The only prerequisite for attending this course is an open minded attitude of enquiry. As Buddha said, “Do not believe what I say just because I am called Buddha, find out the truth for yourself!” Buddha explained that all our problems and suffering arise from confused and negative states of mind, and all our happiness and good fortune arise from peaceful and positive states of mind. He taught methods for gradually overcoming minds such as anger, jealousy and ignorance, and developing positive minds such as love, compassion and wisdom so we experience peace and happiness. These methods work for anyone, in any country, of any background, in any age. Once we have gained experience of them for ourselves we can pass them on to others so they too can enjoy the same benefits.

If you are curious about Buddhist meditation or want to find out more about our centre and tradition of Buddhism this is the perfect course for you.

This course will be taught by the internationally renowned Buddhist monk and teacher Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab. He is known for his deep knowledge, his humour and his immaculate example.

This talk is a stand alone talk, which will include a short guided meditation. You can also combine it with the afternoon talk and the day course on Sunday if you wish to attend all events.

Between talks the temple and cafe will be open serving light refreshments and a simple light lunch.

Please book in advance to be sure of a space.
