Human internasjonale dokumentarfilmfestival 2020 starter med den fantastiske og oppløftende filmen Maxima om én kvinnes kamp mot et av de største gruveselskapene i verden.

Før visningen inviterer vi på et glass og musikk av Kampen Janitsjarorkester før vår emininte åpningstaler Katie Redford gir oss en oppdatering på kampen for menneskerettigheter og mot overgrep fra store selskaper.

Filmregissør Claudia Sparrow vil introdusere filmen Maxima som er årets åpningsfilm.

Business and Human Rights – A Work In Progress?

Millions of people around the world are facing violence, harassment and an end to their traditional ways of life because they are living in areas with valuable natural resources.

In a battle between huge profits and human rights, people’s rights often lose. People who oppose mining, agribusiness and fossil fuel projects are increasingly being killed, threatened, and criminalized. However; the law can be used as a tool of progress, protecting environmental defenders from attacks and threats against their lives and livelihoods.

The film Maxima illustrates this struggle. For over a decade, Maxima Acuña, and her family have resisted attempts from the Newmont Mining Corporation to take away their lands to build a huge and controversial gold mine.Earth Rights has supported Maxima and her family in their fight.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights calls on “every individual and every organ of society” to promote and respect human rights.For decades, a movement has been building to find better ways to protect people and communities from corporate human rights abuse. The UN and the OECD have issued guidelines for corporations. New laws are introduced in many countries.
