LUKE 14 – Biskop Gunnerus gate 14 – POSTHUSET

Skyskrapere skaper skyhøye forventinger, urban takhøyde – og stor fallhøyde. Da Postgirobygget sto ferdig i 1976 var det både Norges høyeste og mest utskjelte bygg. Mange følte at kolossen Rolf Ch. Krognes hadde tegnet var fullstendig umusikalsk i forhold til den gamle bystrukturen. Tiden skulle vise at hans storslåtte horn satte tonen for hele området. I tillegg ga det navn til et av Norges største rockeband!

I 2001 skapte arkitekt HRTB «Forandring» og døpte det til «Posten». Monoklossen ble jazzet opp og forvandlet til et stereotårn. Så ble det strukket opp en hel oktav høyere. Siden den gang har hele området satt opp tempo med en voldsom rytme. Posten, Oslo Plaza, Byporten, og Oslo City har blitt «Down Town» i det nye metropolis. Nå vil Nordisk Ministerråd slå på de aller største paukene og har pekt ut det kobberbeslåtte tårnet til å bli et nytt instrument for utvikling av et miljøfyrtårn. Og inspirert fra norske fjell, skal det ha et «rock solid» energiforbruk.
Men overraskelsen bak i Luke 14 sparer overhodet ikke på energien. I den urbane jungelen får Oslos beboere oppleve et groovy samspill mellom mange kunstnere. De spiller på høyt og lavt, lekent og stringent, rytmisk stammende, varmt jammende. Forberedt og improvisert. Subkulturen og høyblokka møter hverandre bokstavelig talt i døra denne kvelden. Dette er HIP kunst av sitt eget slag, som får mellomgulvet til å dunke og øyne til å blunke. AD_VENT gir bånn bass den 14 desember.

Kunstneren som skal telle opp til 14 skaper kunst ut ifra en høy intellektuell overbygning. Satt inn i et urbant landskap bruker kunstneren lyset som instrument. Bildene som skapes i vår hjerne spiller på vår evne til å se. Resultatet åpenbarer seg som lyn fra klar himmel.

DOOR 14 – Biskop Gunnerus gate 14 – POSTHUSET

Skyscrapers create sky-high expectations for urban rise – and fall. Postgirobygget (the post house) was finished in 1976 and by then it was the tallest, and one of the most controversial buildings in Norway. Many thought the colossus that Rolf Ch. Krognes had designed was completely without sense of rhythm to its surroundings. However, in due time, this grandiose horn would eventually set the tone for the entire area. It has also given name to one of Norway’s greatest pop-rock bands.
In 2001, the architectural firm HRTB won a competition for the renewal of the building with the proposal ‘Forandring’ (‘Change’), and the building was named ‘Posten’ (‘The Post House’). The massive cube was jazzed up and transformed into a stereo tower. The building was stretched one octave higher. Since then, the rhythm and pace of the entire area has drastically increased. Posten (The Post Office), Oslo Plaza, Byporten and Oslo City are parts of the downtown of the new metropolis. The Nordic Council is banging the drum for the copper sheathed tower to become a new instrument to the development of eco-lighthouses. Inspired by the Norwegian mountains, its energy consumption will be rock solid.

The surprise artists behind door 14 do not conserve their energy. In the midst of the urban jungle, the people of Oslo will experience a groovy harmony between many artists. They go high and low on playful strings, performing both improvised jams and rehearsed rhythms. Tonight, subculture will literally enter the doors of the high-rise. This is HIP art that marches to the beat of their own drum. AD_VENT turns up the bass on 14 December.

The artist who will count to 14 creates art from a sharp intellectual viewpoint. The artist uses light as his instrument in the urban landscape. The images created in our minds play with our ability to see. The result will appear as a bolt from the blue.

ABOUT:
AD_VENT – the art of waiting – is an unconventional Advent calendar that offers unique experiences with art in public space.
The windows of the calendar are real doors with numbers that coincide with the dates. As the door opens an artwork will be revealed to the public – it may be music, literature, visual art, performance, theatre or dance.
