"How Human Health Depends on Nature" by Eric Chivian

While human health depends on biodiversity, the rich variety of Earth’s plants, animals, and microbes, this essential relationship is rarely discussed. Join us to hear Dr. Eric Chivian, Director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Medical School, review how the loss of biodiversity affects medical research, human infectious diseases, the discovery of new medicines, and the ecosystem services that support all life, including human life, on our planet.

Dr. Chivian shared the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize for co-founding the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. He is co-editor and lead author of Oxford University Press’ award-winning book Sustaining Life: How Human Health Depends on Biodiversity, which will be available for purchase and signing after the lecture.

Introduction by Rector Ole Petter Ottersen.
