presentere sitt arbeid ‘Meanwhile, in Shanghai …’.
mandag!

In ‘Meanwhile, in Shanghai …’, by Maia Urstad, voices of radio announcers from around the world are mixed with other typical radio sounds. The polyphony of voices, tones and noise fill the exhibition space through dozens of radios suspended from the ceiling.

Maia Urstad is an artist working at the intersection of audio and visual art. She finished The Bergen National Academy of the Arts in 1981 whilst a member of ska/new-wave group ‘Program 81’, releasing 4 records and touring between 1979-84.
In the eighties, her artistic medium migrated toward sound experimentation, and she has since 1987 worked with sound in various art projects, installations, site-specific concerts, theatre and films in Norway and internationally. www.maia.no

Dinah Bird and Jean-Philippe Renoult will present three pieces that play hommage to the radio and the act of recording. In Bruit de Papiers, DinahBird breathes new life into an archive of old radio scripts, Miss Time is a hommage to the first speaking clocks born in the early 1930s. And lastly Lilane’s Song by Jean-Philippe Renoult re-contextualises the famous illicit recordings made by the L’Oréal heiress Liliane Bettancourt’s butler into a distorted social commentary on the state of French politics.

Jean-Philippe Renoult is a writer, radio producer and sound artist based in Paris. DinahBird is a radio artist living and working in Paris and London.Together, and independantly, they make radio programmes, audio publications, installations, and soundtracks. Recent collaborations include Topographies Nocturnes, a radio art project which was awarded  the prestigious Prix Luc Ferrari and Dakar Morning Birds, a radio installation that transposed the dawn chorus of the Senegalese capital to an inner city garden in Northern Paris.
