Operamints får storfint besøk på onsdag! The Observatory er et helt fantastisk band fra Singapore. Albumet de spilte inn for et år siden hos Jørgen Træen i Duper Studio, låter som en javanesisk versjon av sein Scott Walker. I tillegg kommer No Wave/postpunk-bandet MOE over fjellet fra Oslo.

Og alt er GRATIS!

Det vil først bli vernissage ved Marie Storaas kl 20, deretter konsert med MOE i andre etage kl 22 og The Observatory i første etage kl 23.30.

I tillegg vil det bli DJing ved mannen vi alle elsker: SKATEBAARD!

Den norske trioen MOE og The Observatory fra Singapore slår seg sammen og gjør fem konserter i Norge.

The Observatory are an independent avant rock band and an experimental music group based in Singapore, consisting largely of alumni from significant 1990s Singaporean bands.

Founded in 2001, the group’s main tenet is to push individual and collective boundaries farther. The goal isn’t just about creating music that contains universal themes or writing about life from a distinctly Singaporean perspective. It’s about breaking down inhibition, convention and the mechanical way of commercial music-making.

The group draws inspiration from their Southeast Asian roots and an unavoidable post-colonial musical diet. The Observatory fuse unconventional structures, Asian rhythms, bold arrangements, improvisation, thought and expression, while borrowing from random music styles to stir up a potent concoction of emotionally powerful extremes, disturbed and angry on one end, haunting and melancholic on the other.

The heart and soul of The Observatory is in its constant reinvention. With each release, the members have persisted in their experimental take on the songform. This frequently takes their music to the outer limits, creating a rich musical repertoire that’s texturally complex in a sonic tour de force of songs that are viscerally emotional and splintering in its bleakness. A study in delusion, insanity and obsession, Catacombs, their latest album, provokes and inspires in a deeply enigmatic way. Even at its coldest and most abstract, it is human to the core.

Av folk som liker å name droppe har MOE blitt sammenlignet med blant andre Yoko Ono og Lydia Lunch. Men mer presist spiller MOE noise rock med tunge referanser til doom og sludge. MOE nekter konsekvent å innordne seg etter noens forventninger og dundrer avgårde i et uforutsigbart og mørkt landskap.

Bandet slipper i forbindelse med denne turneen sin nye single “Left to swallow”. Spilt inn og mikset i San Francisco, trykt på transparent vinyl og pakket inn i et mørkt og utfordrende design av Kjetil Brandsdal.
Dette er bandets tredje utgivelse, og ikke før turneen er tilbakelagt vil bandet gå i studio og gjøre sin neste fullengder.
