Ghilardi+Hellsten - Cross Section

The exhibition is showcasing a cross section of the office’s production during its first 10 years in practice, and consists of both original and reproduced material, from images and drawings to large models and actual building parts in 1:1. Several large scale installations based on a selection of their projects display the office’s strong approach to design across architectural themes, such as urban planning, structure, space, detail, program and public space.

The exhibition also directs the focus on G + H’s desire for alternative and critical projects and reference points that are influencing their architectural work.

A track record of Ghilardi + Hellsten’s 10 year history features a physical catalogue of all their projects and a timeline illustrating the development of the office. The exhibition is curated and designed by Superunion Architects in collaboration with Ghilardi+Hellsten and ROM.

About Ghilardi+Hellsten:
Ghilardi+Hellsten Arkitekter is an Oslo based practice engaged with architecture and urbanism as a common discipline. The firm was established in 2003 by architects Ellen Hellsten and Franco Ghilardi, and has today a regular staff of 15 employees. Their portfolio consists of small, medium and large projects, which are now being developed and executed. Current projects under construction include upgrading of Stranden 1 at Aker Brygge in Oslo, Eldhusøya visitor centre at Atlanterhavsvegen and the recently completed Sabetjohk pedestrian bridge in Kåfjord. The office also recently won the prestigious competition for the relocation of the city centre of Kiruna in Sweden.

Ghilardi+Hellsten’s working method consists on developing ideas and concepts that override solutions through exploration, tactics and critical testing; they continuously research on landscape, art, film, materials and virtual tools to define and extend this process, a context-specific approach renders each of their projects different.
