Founded in 2000 by Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun, The Otolith Group is an award-winning artist collective based in London. The group produces films, installations, and exhibitions that emerge from archival research into the global nuclear regime, speculative futures, tricontinentalism, and cybernetics. Recent exhibitions have been presented at numerous museums and they have been included in such international exhibitions as dOCUMENTA 13; the 29th São Paulo Biennial; and Manifesta 8. In 2010, The Otolith Group was nominated for the Turner Prize.

People To Be Resembling UK/India, 2012, 21 minutes Video

This film can be described as a five sided portrait of the methodologies of the post-free jazz, pre-world music trio Codona, founded by multi-instrumentalists Collin Walcott, Don Cherry, and Nana Vasconcelos. Consisting of stills by renowned photographers Roberto Masotti and Isio Saba, newly filmed and archival footage and original music performed by musician Charles Hayward, People to be Resembling reimagines the poetics of permutation informing the sonic geography of the first Codona album. In its arrangement of positive and negative with colour and black and white this film stages an experiment in mnemonic cohabitation inspired by the visionary music of Codona.

The Radiant Otolith Group (UK, 2012, 64 minutes Video )

The Radiant explores the aftermath of the Great Tohoku Earthquake, which struck the North East Coast of Japan triggering a tsunami that killed tens of thousands and caused the partial meltdown of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
In this experimental documentary, the makers travel through the history of nuclear energy in general and that of Japan in particular. With the aid of interviews, old public information films, newsreel items and jerky shots of disasters, questions are answered and new questions posed.
In the fissures opened by these catastrophes, the illuminated cities and evacuated villages of Japan can be understood as a laboratory for the global nuclear regime that exposes its citizens to the necropolitics of radiation.
