VELKOMMEN TIL EMIL FINNERUD "TOKENS OF DISRUPTION" PÅ LYNX 5-7. SEPTEMBER

[Bilde]

LYNX is proud to present the solo exhibition Tokens Of Disruption, with new works by Emil Finnerud.

“Imperial war has neither a beginning nor an end, it is a permanent process of pacification. The essential aspects of its methods and principles have been known for fifty years. They were developed in the wars of decolonization during which the oppressive state appa¬ratus underwent a decisive change. From then on the enemy was no longer an isolable entity, a foreign nation, or a determined class; it was somewhere lying in ambush within the population, with no visible attributes. If need be, it was the population itself, the population as insurgent force.”
- Tiqqun, “This Is Not a Program”

Tokens Of Disruption is an exhibition where all the works are to be read as objects chosen by the artist for their aesthetic properties, but still unavoidable as manifestations (tokens) of disruption. A sculpture in two parts with the same title as the exhibition itself; two rockets placed in separate racks, all made of welded steel is central to the exhibition. The twin rocket sculpture is a full-scale model (approx 190 × 150 cm each) of the Qassam rockets used by the Palestinian Hamas group. Finnerud is examining the physical and formal presence of charged objects merely as objects. With an attempt to avoid launching, pushing any buttons, or explicitly embark in the given conflict, the “homemade” rockets has been disarmed, emptied of any political or symbolic meaning and is treated almost irreverent by the artist as an aesthetic token. But still, it would be naïve not to seek behind the hollow shell of the seemingly neutral sculpture. No matter what was originally intended, the unavoidable presence of discomfort will hit the viewer; a forced demand/feeling to decide whether to be disrupt or not.
