LYNX is proud to present the solo exhibition CYCLE by Odd Fredrik Heiberg.

CYCLE is a huge painting on canvas, a 360-degree painting based kinetic installation, built on site, carefully and consistent constructed to fit the pavilion. The canvas creates a circular space within Lynx´ octagonal room.

Lynx’ Pavilion was built in the panorama painting’s heyday. The 360-degree painting was a precursor to mass tourism; it took people on imaginary journeys to notable places and famous events. Heibergs installation takes you to another type of journey; the quest to challenge and expand the field of painting as a medium. The canvas can be viewed from both the inside and outside, but the audience cannot fix their eyes on one part of the image, because the painting is rotating in an eternal perpetual motion. The audience can experience the painting many times in a row as it drifts by, however it is impossible to see the entire image all at once. The overall picture must be formed in the individual viewers mind.

Odd Fredrik Heiberg: (b1965 in Oslo). Lives and works in Skien, Norway. He has his education from KHiB, Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam NL, MA, and mainly works with painting, sculpture and installation as well as commissions and art consulting.
