The Art of Listening - Contact Improvisation Dance Workshop

We will practice how to develop our solo dance, our “way of dancing”, to use that experience in a touch and weight exchange, which happens in a meeting with our dance partners, in contact improvisation. We will explore simple exercises and movement patterns coming from basics of CI dance, improvisation and body awareness. From this point we can go further and make research for more advanced dances and movement playfulness. We will dance a lot and have fun:)

Language: English Level: open About Contact Improvisation: What is contact improvisation (CI) ? This dance form is originating from the contemporary dance technique and created by Steve Paxton, an American dancer and choreographer. Many of inspiration for the creation of CI gave him Aikido practice and analysis of the use of the laws of physics of motion, such as body mass, momentum and gravity. The dance is spontaneous, creative, its forms are created without planning. It has no predictability and common patterns of movement. This form of dance is a game with infinite possibilities. Each dance is a journey into the unknown and the type of dynamic meditation. The body becomes an instrument of exploration and discovery opportunities arising from the varying point of contact between the partners and the interaction between the law of gravity, the force of momentum and interaction. Dancing triggers creativity, developing nonverbal communication skills.
