While the world is buzzing about technological literacy and programming in schools we are forgetting the most important reason why our kids should become creators of technology and not just consumers. It’s not to create more jobs or save our democracy, although it would do that too.

No, it’s to give kids the technological tools to create a more humane society built on creativity, curiosity and the willingness to help others. Because ultimately, that is the whole purpose of technology, is it not?

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Carl Bärstad is the Lead Instigator of the global Kids Hack Day movement and co-founder of Quirkbot, a maker toy that lets anyone build and program their own robots using regular drinking straws. Carl wrote his master thesis on Science Communication and has ever since engaged in educational workshops, organizing TEDx events and giving lectures around the world on the importance of giving kids tools to become makers of their own world.
