Dance of darkness - workshop med Daisuke Yoshimoto

[Bilde]

Daisuke guides the participants through discovering the information hidden in the cellular memory and the organic movements of the body. By placing objects on the participants bodies such as a broom in their hands, a piece of paper in their mouth, a new architecture for the body is created so that the spirit can enter. As such, classes with Daisuke Yoshimoto are not only an introduction to Butoh but also a thrilling lesson of “Butoh theatre” and creative transcending of one’s boundaries. The workshop ends with a common improvisation.

Daisuke Yoshimoto has collaborated and co-created performances with some of the most iconic names in Butoh such as Hisayo Iwaki, Yukihiko Sakai and Kazuo Ohno. He started his own dancing career in the early 1980s and is still today an active dancer and teacher, exploring the subjects of death, grotesque and the androgyne. He is a sought after performer and teacher, and has taught and danced all over the world. Now, being 76 years old, he continues to choreograph new performances and travel – with his distinct Butoh.

We feel very privileged to welcome him to Oslo in August.
