En mann i kvinnedrakt fra USA som spiller harpe. Hennes omgangsgjeng er nettopp Anthony & the Johnsons (hun spiller i bandet) og Rufus Wainwright. Tekster som treffer noe i oss alle om en er hetero, homo eller bi. Optimistisk melankoli. Konserten starter nokså tidlig!

Baby Dee was born in Ohio Cleveland in 1953, and spent ten years as an organist for a Catholic church- before joining a circus in Coney Island as a bilateral hermaphrodite. She then toured with the circus around Europe, residing in Paris for a number of years, indulging in the bohemian, Parisian lifestyle, performing on her harp with The Shanghai Bureau’ before returning to New York City. Here she had a street act, involving a high-rise tricycle and concert harp. It was only in 2000 that she recorded her first record Little Window on the Durtro label, before going on to record a four track EP in 2001, and her second full-length album Love’s Small Song in 2002.
It’s hardly the usual tale of an artist making music to escape the monotony of their everyday existence, – but then again Baby Dee’s music is anything but ordinary. Often abstruse, the themes, and verbose poetry culminate in a uniquely beautiful lyrical style, rivaled only by the harmonious manner in which she plays both harp and piano. Although her voice is often haunted, with leanings towards darkness, her lyrics allow for optimism and love: ’I’ll make a book of songs for my Anne Marie

It is very difficult to liken Baby Dee to other artists, particularly as her unique style transcends many categorical musical genres. She has played alongside Marc Almond, Antony and the Johnsons, Little Amy, and is a member of the Current 93 live band. Fusing incredible arrangements of sweet strings and thundering piano, with mixed measures of spite and delight, Baby Dee is a one- off unique talent who should not be overlooked.
