Åpent Forum presenterer: Georgina Starr

Georgina Starr is a British artist living and working in London.

She has exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions, including shows at the Tate Gallery in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and at the Venice Biennale.

One of the key themes in Starr’s work is the relationship between history and memory.
A chance meeting with an eccentric, octogenarian film fan, introduced Starr to the world of silent screen legend Theda Bara. Through extensive research into the art of Bara and other neglected silent stars, Starr has reconstructed key scenes from the lost films, with both herself and the film fan taking on the role of Theda.

In one of her earliest videos, Static Steps, Starr filmed a small paper cut-out figure reacting physically to random static electricity and then voiced over this recording with a precise description of the movements as if they were rehearsed dance steps. This began her practice of re-describing banal and often random aspects of modern life in such a way that they seemed like major events.
