KABINETT #2 - André Gonçalves

Kabinett - a stage for sound art

is proud to present a concert and installation by André Gonçalves:

Resonant Objects
»performance

André Gonçalves ‘Resonant Objects’ is an ongoing series of works focused on creating micro-environments, computer controlled hermetic spaces. Bringing together sound and space through sympathetic vibrations, sound is used as a medium to excite space in order to render audible its natural resonances – sound multiplying in and by space.

For this installation André is adapting his ‘Resonant Objects’ to play a piece according to a site-specific musical score, this score is triggered by a computer and played according to motion inputs sensed by motion sensors located in the space.

Untitled #06 deals with analog>digital>analog data handling, it uses two legendary audio mediums, the microphone and the turntable, the latter is prepared to register the data input coming from the first. Instead of holding the needle while it reads sound from the vinyl, the turntable arm is attached to a motor servo that moves according to the impulses coming from a basic stamp which digitizes, handles and processes the data coming from the sound captured by the microphone. One indian ink pen is attached where the needle should be and draws in real-time the audio events happening in the site-specific where it is installed into a hand cutted vinil shaped canson paper sheet. These resultant drawings can be seen as histograms of the audio activity of a space during a certain period of time.

Untitled #06 is part of an ongoing series of sound installations.
