It might be hard to believe these days, but there was once a time when punk rock was not a cool t-shirt. There was a brief period when much of the public thought punk was a genuinely scary, antisocial phenomenon, a kind of weird cultural netherworld where all of society’s freaks, misfits, and rejects gathered, possibly plotting to burn society down. And wrote very good music, to boot. World Burns to Death are one of the few bands going nowadays that bring that sort of spirit back into hardcore punk rock.
World Burns to Death are a hardcore punk band from Austin, Texas. Formed in 2000, the current lineup (as of June, 2006) consists of: Jack Control, vocals; Zac Tew, guitar; Craig Merritt, bass; and Jon Guerinot, drums. Current and former members are also involved with other bands, including From Ashes Rise, Kegcharge, The Bulemics, Severed Head of State, and Krematorium Dogs. World Burns to Death’s singer, Jack Control, was stabbed outside of a show in late January, 2006. The weapon, a 5" knife, barely missed his heart.
