US Latin America policy under Obama: Change or continuity?
There are expectations of significant change in the Latin America policy of the new US administration.
- But what will characterize Barack Obama’s policy towards the region?
- Will we see major changes or rather a continuation of the approaches by previous US governments?
In this seminar, Mark Weisbrot, Co‐director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington D.C., will analyze the political situation in the region and the likely policies of the Obama administration.
Mark Weisbrot holds a Ph.D in economics from the University of Michigan. He has written numerous research papers on economic policy of the United States and Latin America, with a particular focus on Venezuela. Weisbrot writes a column on economic and policy issues that is distributed nationwide in the United States. He is also the founding president of Just Foreign Policy, a non governmental organization dedicated to reforming United States foreign policy. He is currently involved in the making of a documentary with Oliver Stone about the key left‐wing presidents in Latin America.
