NorLarNet and SUM seminar: "Indigenous peoples and democratic processes"

Open seminar with Elsa Son, Vice-Minister of Culture, Guatemala, organized in collaboration between the Guatemalan Embassy in Norway and NorLARNet

During the last 20 years there has been an increasing participation of indigenous peoples in democratic processes in Latin America. In the struggle to achieve recognition and implementation of indigenous peoples’ rights, there have been two important arenas: a) the international arena, with the adoption of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the discussions in OAS on the draft American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; b) the construction of internal processes in each country. Vice-Minister Elsa Son will talk about the achievements and challenges in Latin America, with a special focus on Guatemala.
