*The second season of exhibitions at Landings inaugurates an additional project space, Landings/3. The first show will be Andrea Geyer’s Out of Sorts, which combines drawings of iconic images from mainstream media and movies of queer kisses with poetic texts. Geyer has selected definitions from the Oxford English Dictionary of words such as androgynous, queer, difference, violence, power, repression and others, in order to create a poetic surface that opens up a space of belonging and desire, paired with an undeniable vulnerability and inherent threat of violence against the queer community.

In addition, Case Study: Art and Biography, curated by Geir Haraldseth, will be on view at Landings/1 and /2. The exhibition frames the photographic work of Cindy Sherman by using the artists’ biography as a guide to presenting her catalog, instead of utilizing more conventional curatorial means, such as thematics or chronology. Biography is an important tool for art-historians, but contextualizing Sherman’s work within her biography, opens the door for novel readings of the work of this ubiquitous artist, who expressly denies the autobiographical in her work.*

Andrea Geyer is a German artist, who lives and works between Freiburg and New York City. Geyer uses both fiction and documentary strategies in her image and text-based works. She investigates historically evolved concepts such as national identity, gender and class in the context of the ongoing re-adjustment of cultural meanings and social memories in current politics. Her work has been shown at RedCat/Los Angeles; LACE/Los Angeles; Hessel Museum/Bard College; Vera List Center for Arts and Politics/The New School; the Whitney Museum of American Art; Apex Art; Artist Space/New York; TATE Modern; Serpentine Gallery/London; Generali Foundation; Secession/ Vienna; Smart Project Space/Amsterdam; IASPIS/Stockholm; the Turin Biennale/Italy; and documenta12/Kassel.

Geir Haraldseth is an independent curator from Norway, currently working as a curator at the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Norway and as an editor for Landings Journal. Haraldseth has a BA from Central Saint Martins and an MA in curatorial studies from Bard College. Haraldseth has curated shows at Fotogalleriet/Oslo; Bastard/Oslo; Center for Curatorial Studies/Bard College; and Torpedo/Oslo. Haraldseth has contributed to a number of different journals, including Acne Paper/Stockholm, Billedkunst/Oslo, Kunstkritikk.no and Elle Mann/Oslo, and lectured at Art in General/New York, the University of Oslo, and the Art Academy in Oslo.

Landings is an artist run project space for contemporary art situated in Vestfossen, Norway, founded in 2008. With three individual rooms of a toltal of 120 square meters, run on an ideal basis, Landings offers artists, curators and writers an independant space for research and discourse.

Landings also consist of Landings Journal, published three times a year and Landings Editions, a project in which the exhibiting artists along with curators and writers involved in Landings also creates a signed and numbered work exclusive for the project space.
