Reform of the World Bank – change we can believe in?

As this week is the Week of Global Action against Debt and the International Finance Institutions, we want to shed light on how the reforms in the World Bank are coming along and what we can expect from the Bank in years to come. In the wake of the global financial crisis, the need to deliver aid effectively is more urgent than ever. A new report by the UN finds that the working poor in developing countries have been hardest hit. Yet, many claim that the World Bank is falling short of its potential.

The Norwegian Coalition for Debt Cancellation (SLUG) is pleased to invite you to an open seminar on Friday October 16th 15:00-16:30 to learn more about, and discuss, reform of the World Bank. Among issues that will be raised, are: What progress was made during the IMF and World Bank annuals in Istanbul last week? How has the World Bank changed in the wake of the financial crisis?

The following panelists, who all attended the annuals themselves, are participating:

- Sony Kapoor – Managing Director of the think-tank Re-Define

- Henrik Harboe – Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

- Jostein Hole Kobbeltvedt, Advisor in global economy at Norwegian Church Aid

- Øygunn Sundsbø Brynildsen, president of SLUG (chair)
