SPECIAL EXHIBIT
HRH Queen Sonja of Norway is honouring both the Norwegian Milliners and Hat Designers Association and The Jubilee Hat Exhibition with a loan from her own collection of hat effects.
These special hats are created by the late milliner and grand old lady May Aubert. She made a series of different hats for HRH Queen Sonja.
May Aubert was for decades probably the most famous milliner in Norway. She worked as a milliner in New York City before returning to Norway some time after the 2nd World War. She created a number of hats for famous actresses, among them Sonja Henie, Zarah Leander, Aase Bye og Wenche Foss. Her knowledge and qualificiations made her popular amongst the young students and throughout the years she taught several new generations of milliners in her hat studio. She received the King’s Medal of Merit in Silver (1998).
May Aubert died in 2005, 93 years old.
