18.00 : Dråpe

Dråpe was born out of a previous project called Takk that began life in Oslo during the Summer of 2009 with three of the four previous members. Dråpe play noise-pop that is both aggressive and soothing. If you like shoegaze and the more melodic end of nose then this is most certainly something for you.

The band were selected as one of the finalists in this year’s Urørt competition.

“Dråpe make amazingly beautiful noise-pop, perfect for the Autumn. With the track “We Want The World” this is a band that tingles all the senses, who make music that almost makes one feel weightless.” – NRK Urørt

20.00 : Kinee

KINEE are a singer songwriter + DJ – both acoustic and electronic. Grand piano and vocals on the one hand, turntables and glowing screens on the other.

Kine and Magnus met in the South Eastern town of Halden back in 2004 and shortly began to play together in a band, Magnus taking up duties behind the decks, Kine on piano / vox. Five years later and the pair having both moved to Oslo at the same time, they’re back at it this time as a duo. KINEE deliver the best of both worlds and ably prove that sounds that would normally be pigeonholed as girly or nerdy electronica can work so so well together.

KINEE have opened for Uffie, played Klubb Trash Kassett Oslo hotspot Blå, and been on the bill at Øyanatt. They’re collaborating with Ralph Myerz on his new record and are well on the way to completing an album of their own for release in 2011.

21.00 : Your Headlights Are On

The sound of old steam locomotives, American beat poetry and a special something. Explosive, unpredictable, honest. Your Headlights Are On from Trondheim, are the result of what happens when creative and forward-thinking young people come together and make magic.

PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Bjørk and Hanne Hukkelberg are obvious inspirations, but enough about that. The YHAO project was selected for the TEIP industry showcase event in Trondheim in 2009. Since then a long creative period has followed, and after many hours of practice sessions and writing, YHAO began to put in place the building blocks for an exciting live band.

In Spring 2010 the band took their first steps into the live arena proper, with some great local shows in Trondheim. The band gained their first plays on national radio, some good coverage on the radio program Urørt and played at the Norwegian Rock Association’s AGM.

“Your Headlights Are On are captivating, skilled and professional and their music will chill you to the bone in a good way. (…) If you miss any more shows by Your Headlights Are On I feel sorry for you. They are Norwegian music history in the shaping. (Eirik Arlov, NöMusic)

22.00 : Hype City labelnight: Tønes

With his unique formula of smalltown musings, serious humor and humorous seriousness, Tønes has been for ten years plus, Rogaland’s worst kept secrets and one of Norway’s top songwriters. Across five albums he has given the Norwegian singer / songwriter genre a new dimension both lyrically and musically. If Jonathan Richman had sung in Norwegian then he’d be a candidate to fill Tønes’ throne should he ever abdicate. In 2009 he released the outlandishly monikered “Sobihob” compilation of oddments and rarities alongside some live material recorded with a little known Oslo band, The NRK Broadcast Orchestra (or Kork for short), all recorded anew.

“A songwriter who never ceases to amaze.” – Dagsavisen

23.00 : Hype City labelnight: Robyn Hitchcock/IWas A King

Robyn Hitchcock began his career as a recording artist at the end of the seventies as part of The Soft Boys and has gone on to become one of Britain’s most loved singer songwriters, indulging in both folk rock and psychadelia. He’s long had a fascination for Norway, which has finally come to fruition with this new Norwegian themed record.

The record even includes a song written in New Norwegian, lyrics translated by Anne Lise Frøkedal (IWAK / Harrys Gym). The record is slated for release on Bergen’s Hype City label and to make the project complete, he’s assembled a Norwegian backing band largely consisting of members of I Was A King, Lionheart Brothers and Loch Ness Mouse.

24.00 : Hype City labelnight: Skjelve Kommode

Skjelvekommode is the musical magic that happens when Frank Tønnesen (Tønes) and Frode Strømstad (I Was A King) meet and play around with each others ideas. The fallout is more genuinely Frank but more immediately Frode, warm, international sounding pop songs, sung in Norwegian.

The project isn’t just the sum of its parts, Tønes and I Was A King, more an unplanned escapade along an as yet undefined path. Think Jeff Tweedy and Neil Young in a oddball country dialect. Think slide guitars and pop refrains. Either way, you’ve not heard anything like it.

Alongside Frank and Frode are multi-instrumentalist Erlend Aasland on strings / keys, Morten Jackman (Wunderkammer, Helldorado) on drums and Ole Reidar Gudmestad on bass. Skjelvekommode released their first magnificent seven inch in 2010 and will follow up with a full album in the new year.
