20.00 : Spoon Train labelnight: Honeytraps

Not long after Honeytraps had got up and running, they’d already caught the attention of the country’s gay scene, been playlisted on student radio in Oslo and Bergen and been censored by Bergens Tidene (a major regional paper).

It isn’t because they are an out and out gay band or that they are political activists that the were too strong a medicine for the Bergen paper’s culture section. It is perhaps that they are wonderfully life-affirming, free-spirited, and appeal to anyone that enjoys Cool Britiania in the 90s tinged pop music, dancefloor action, fun or bongos.

21.00 : Spoon Train labelnight: Lama

Lama’s music is perhaps best described as grandiose post-pop played by a six-headed monster prodigy. Difficult to categorize of course, but technically gifted, expansive and with a whole host of interesting licks played in such a way that makes the demanding seem effortless.

Lama have oft been compared to the likes of Mew and Norwegian legends Motorpsycho and played the final spot on the biggest stage of all at by:Larm 2009. The band return to by:Larm in 2011 having taken two steps further forward into the pop world, and Norway is looking forward to the release of their third album this coming Autumn.

22.00 : Spoon Train labelnight: Einar Stray

The Norwegian lovechild of Godspeed and Sufjan Stevens, Einar Stray first came onto the scene in 2008. In the three year’s since he’s reached the ripe old age of twenty, returned to Oslo and recruited a backing band featuring musicians from Moddi, Therese Aune and Shimmering and together they both whisper and shout. Grandiose, melancholy, orchestral and noisy. Post-rock, indie-pop, shoegaze and folk all blend together in a distinctive mix that no Norwegian artist can match.

As keyboard player for A-ha prize winner Moddi, many people have heard Einar Stray’s dulcet tones in 2010. Since the release of his E.P. “Favors and fields” in 2008, Einar’s voice has grown and matured, but his piano playing is still at the very heart of what he does, creating songs that stir the emotions, that are both surprising and overwhelming but still also reguire something from the listener. As soon as you think you know where a song is going it takes off in a whole new direction, taking you along with it. The song “Arrows” from his debut was heavily featured on P3 Urørt and his first full length is expected in February 2011.

“With exceptional flair for building, soaring melodies, Einar Stray puts you on slow-mo and transports you off to his jangly acoustic pop universe. An electric blanket of warm organ sounds provides the framework for “Arrows” and now with guitar, bass, strings and sing-along vocals, just lie back and feel the lump in your throat grow. Beautiful.” – Henning Severud, NRK P3

24.00 : Spoon Train labelnight: Casa Murilo

2010 was busy year for Casa Murilo, from Oslo. After having delivered raw, infectious sets at Studentersamfundet in Trondheim, and at venues in Oslo such as Mono, Revolver, Blå, John Dee and Gloria Flames the band were hand picked to play the prestigious Norwegian Wood event in Oslo. They have just finished recording their debut album with producer Sjur Lyseid (Monzano / The Little Hands Of Asphalt) and will release through Spoon Train Audio in January. The track “Drunken Promises” is already being played on P3.

Casa Murilo present a personal and energetic take on charming indie-rock which demands public attention and engages the listener. Their live show is not to be missed, just remember to take your best dancing shoes…

“Jangly indie pop with irresistible tunes.” – allscandinavian.com Best of 2010 feature

“One of the new pop bands from Oslo that I have the highest hopes for. “Murilo, I Love You” is something I go back to again and again. A beautiful and super-catchy pop song.” – eardrumsmusic.com
