ANIKA (Stones Throw)

Anika is a singer and DJ who fronts a band also called Anika (Stones Throw/ Invada). Singing in dreamlike, deadpan tones the songs her bands creates are wrapped up in analogue effects, echo and atmospheres. The sound has that warm/cool and retro/futuristic magic that creates strange sensations and thrills cut through with elemental influences from of punk, dub and 60s girl groups like an alluring negative print of The Shangri-Las shot through with irreverent attitude plus a heavy pop edge, dirty grooves and drum machine. She was DJing before the band got together and at the start of 2011 went on a US tour making a handful of DJ appearances with dates in New York and LA, spinning alongside the likes of Peanut Butter Wolf, Cubic Zirconia, Machinedrum, and Veronica Vasicka (who’s responsible for curating Stones Throw’s excellent Minimal Wave Tapes)

Beatbully (Dødpop)

Formed in 2008 in Oslo Dødpop instantly made a hit on the skweee scene with a series of essential 7"s and a critically lauded compilation. Taking in all the influences of the skweee pioneers and combining it with that Norwegian swagger, the sound of Dødpop is bright, funky and primed for the dancefloor. Their 2nd compilation confirmed Dødpop’s position as one of skweee’s leading labels. On March 12, the 30-year-old Oslo native Beatbully will release his long awaited album «Kosmisk regn» on Dødpop. Although this is Beatbully’s first album release, he’s no stranger to recording. Working as a sound designer for film and television by day and a musician at night, seem to have given him an edge in the beat making department. Ever since the release of «Robot i tromma» in 2008, Beatbully has been championed as one of the most promising new skweee talents. His productions have garnered critical acclaim and recognition by the likes of XLR8R, Nö Music and BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens. With a new album out, Beatbully will be touring in Europe with labelmates Melkeveien and Sprutbass. You can catch them at Blå in Oslo on March 11 and in Trondheim at BrukBar & SUPA on March 12.
