AUNTIE FLO (UK)
Hailing from Goa by way of Glasgow, Auntie Flo’s sound is “Afro-inspired, tribal and raw to the core” (Feel My Bicep Blog). His influences are far flung, referencing; Villalobos, Four Tet and Caribou, to Fela Kuti, William Onyeabor, and kwaito, alongside Kode 9’s Hyperdub, Chicago house and italo-disco plus more recently Matias Aguayo’s Comeme imprint and some of the current movers and shakers from the UK scene.

His first vinyl release, “Goan Highlife” on the Huntleys and Palmers Label sold out on pre-order and was immediately played by the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Andrew Weatherall, Caribou and Optimo, as well as receiving primetime plays by Gilles Peterson on Radio 1. The follow up “Oh My Days” (due out later this month) is set to do even better, and has already been rinsed by Joy Orbison, Jackmaster and Pearson Sound, the later of whom liked it so much he remixed it. Again it was picked up on Radio 1 by the likes of Rob Da Bank and Erol Alkan, with the latter including it as one of his current ‘Secret Weapons’.

Auntie Flo is Brian d’Souza, a Dj, producer and sound designer. He’s been Djing and producing under various guises for ten years and currently holds down residencies at Highlife in Glasgow/London and Slabs of the Tabernacle in Glasgow.
