Joe 2 Grand – D.J/ Turntablist / Human Beatbox / Writer/ Producer and Teacher with 15 years experience working in music professionally
Wrote cinematic hip hop/electronic tracks as part of ‘R.P.M’ for then fledgling ‘trip-hop‘ label ‘Mo’ Wax’ and was linked with label mates ‘D.J Shadow’ and ‘D.J Krush’ and coined by Mixmag as the inventors of ‘Trip Hop’. Recorded as ‘RunawaysUK’ with co writer A.J Kwame on a label they help set up,‘Ultimate Dilemma’. Wrote L.ps ‘Classic Tales’ and ‘Progress’ featuring collaborations with rappers Masta Ace, Iriscience, J zone, Tiye Phoenix, artists Sylvia Powell and Matt Cooper (Outside) and cover artwork from Turner prize winning artist ‘Chris Ofili’.
Joe’s remix/production work includes Groove Armada, US3, DJ Zinc, Emiliana Torrini, Cyclops 4000, Mos Def & Talib Kweli, Killer Priest andPressure Drop. He wrote exclusive tracks for labels Catskills, Grand Central and Nuphonic and theme music for the award winning radio show ‘London Xpress’ on XFM. His music was used for TV adverts including Mc Donalds, i Tunes and Citroen, TV documentaries and shows like ‘Deals on Wheels’, ‘Ghetto fabulous’, ‘The Big Bang’, ‘Richard and Judy’ and the film ‘Dog Eat Dog’.
Joe has performed live with the 21-piece Orchestra culminating in a new project ‘Symphonic Beats’ with new ‘classical meets HipHop’ compositions. This has performed in Italy, Portugal, Germany and London sponsored by The Arts Council Of England and the PRSF Foundation.
Joe has co written and performed music for the ‘Broken Words’ poetry/theatre production from Apples and Snakes and his won project and also performed as the D.J for the Roger Robinson tour .Joe runs a fully equipped recording studio in London, Stoke Newington as well as his own publishing company Runaways Publishing administered by Westbury Music.Joe has played clubs all over Europe, U.S.A, South Africa and Australia alongside legends like D.J Cash Money, D.J Noise, D.J Craze, Scratch Perverts,Cut Chemist and D.J Q-bert. Joe has practised his scratching everyday for 15 years and incorporates his skills in both D.J performances and his recordings.Joe has regular gigs in London at 333 club, Fabric, SoulTree, Mass, Suga (Lemington Spa), ‘Catch the Beat’, Fez – Putney and ‘Storm’Embassy Rooms , Islington playing HipHop, RnB and funk and breaks with scratching. Other gigs include Breaksfest Perth Australia, Big Chill Naxos Greece, Big Chill Eastnor Castle, and Lovebox Weekender London.
Joe has also taught D.J ing/Turntablism/Human Beatbox/Music Production for, Point Blank Studios ,Tribal Tree Music , London School of Sound ,Studio 2 (Oslo, Norway) and in schools and youth clubs in and around London since 2003 .His fun and informative scratch D.J classes include all the scratches and juggles you will need! .He also teaches music making on Logic Pro 7 and Reason 3.0 .Joe has also been a judge at the DMC World D.J Championship.
In 2011, Joe continues to teach,DJ and perform across the UK and beyond- recent projects include acting as a DJ and writer for the ‘Lee Nelson tour’ (comedy character from BBC3)
