Afternoon lecture and panel discussion: The Urban Fabric: City Planning vs. City Users

Museet for samtidskunst is pleased to announce a series of afternoon lectures and panel discussions. The first to go:

THE URBAN FABRIC: CITY PLANNING VS. CITY USERS

Panel:

Dennis Crompton

Erik Goengrich

Karl Otto Ellefsen

Moderator: Andreas Vaa Bermann

Free entrance

The panel “The Urban Fabric: City Planning vs. City Users” will present several examples of historical and contemporary approaches to urban planning and analyse how successful they have been both from a formal point of view and even more so on a practical level, for the actual users of the city. Experiences from other cities in the world will be set into context with the current changes and development of the urban fabric of Oslo and other Norwegian cities. In many cases it has become obvious that urban planning from the drawing board does not always provide the ideal urban fabric for the actual users who do not get invited to play an active role in the planning process and later have to live with the results, trying to find ways to adapt to them practically instead of the other way around.
