INFERNO Metal Festival presents: EARTH, MOUNT EERIE and Ô PAON at Victoria, Wednesday April 4th. EARTH; the pioneers of drone-doom metal, MOUNT EERIE’s mix of organic black metal and low-key acoustics and the French Canadian project Ô PAON will kick start next year’s festival at Victoria for the INFERNO Club day.

After playing the INFERNO festival back in 2009, there has been a strong wish both from the band and the festival audience to see them at Victoria once again. So we are really happy to announce that Earth is back for 2012.

Earth

Earth is an American musical group based in Seattle, Washington, formed in 1989 and led by guitarist Dylan Carlson. The band’s music is nearly all instrumental, and can be divided into two distinct stages. Their early work characterized by heavy distorted droning, minimalist, lengthy, and repetitive structures; it is recognized as pioneering the genre of drone doom – an experimental offshoot of doom metal. Following a hiatus due to Carlson’s personal problems, Earth reappeared around 2005 with a markedly different sound. Their music was still drone based, slow-paced and lengthy, but now with a drummer and featuring strong elements of country music, jazz, English folk rock, including Fairport Convention. The drone doom band Sunn O))), who formed as a tribute to Earth, were named after their collective amplifiers of choice, Sunn. Sunn O))) also has a song entitled “Dylan Carlson” on its demo.

Earth released their album Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light I in February and their new album Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II will be released in February 2012 so we are looking forward to hear their new material live at INFERNO this year! Link til hjemmeside
