Kl.16.30 hos Ny Musikk, Platousgt.18 – fri entré

Tidligere elev av Nicolaus A. Huber og Günter Steinke i Essen, har Pena særlig markert seg som komponist av elektroakkustiske musikk. Han har vært stipendiat i prestisjetunge studioer som ICEM, IRCAM, ZKM | Karlsruhe, Experimentalstudio Freiburg og Visby Composers Centre (Sweden) og foreleser i dag i Lyd interaksjonen ved Musikhochschule Trossingen.

Penas “Winterlich ruhende Erde…”(2000) fremføres av cellisten Francesco Dillon på konserten “Ordløs Retorikk”, søndag 11.3 kl.17 på Filmens Hus.

Musikknotasjonens historie fra det nittende århundre til i dag er også historien om partituret som komposisjonsredskap. Da det løsriver oss fra tidsforløpet, tillater det å skille arbeidstiden fra den faktiske tiden i musikken. Det faktum at man arbeider en time, en uke eller en måned med en passasje som til slutt bare klinger i noen få sekunder, har viktige konsekvenser. Helt fra Perotin til Ferneyhough kan man observere en utvikling av notasjonen, noe som alltid involverer nye parametre, og hvor komposisjonen og notasjonen blir nettopp uatskillelige og gjensidig avhengige. Utvekslingen mellom dem forblir likevel på et abstrakt nivå. Musikk oppstår først når de akustiske bølgene sprer seg i luft og tid og blir oppfattet med sansene våre, våre sinn og følelser. Denne konstateringen danner et utgangspunkt for innføringen av fremmedelementer i komposisjonsprosessen. Intensivt arbeid med elektronikk er også en faktor som øver sterk innflytelse på oppfatningen av musikk og lyd. Luis Antunes Pena forteller hvordan denne erfaringen muliggjør nye retninger i komposisjonsprosessen.

Om Luis Antunes Pena

luís antunes pena, composer of electroacoustic and instrumental music, was born in 1973 in Lisbon/Portugal and is living currently in Cologne/Germany. He studied in Portugal at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with António Pinho Vargas and in Germany with Nicolaus A. Huber, Günter Steinke and Dirk Reith at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen and at ICEM (Institut für Computermusik und Medien). He became further important impulses from Emmanuel Nunes in Lisbon during the Gulbenkian courses and from Gérard Grisey at IRCAM.

His compositions result from the intensive work on computer generated structures based on the development of his own computer tools, reflecting his interest in new forms of sound and specially of rhythm.

His music has been played all over Europe and USA. He won composition prizes at the Eastman Computer Music Center 25th Anniversary International Electroacoustic Music Competition (Rochester/USA) at the 11th Summer Seminar from Vienna, at the contests Óscar da Silva and Lopes Graça (Portugal), and his music has been distinguished and selected several festivals such asthe ISCM Festivals in Miami, the World Music Days Stuttgart, the 32e Concours International de Musique et d’Art Sonore Electroacoustiques de Bourges, the International Computer Music Conference, the Festival Internazionale di Musica Elettroacustica del Conservatorio Santa Cecilia di Roma, or the Mantis Festival of the University of Manchester.

He was granted the scholarship of the Foundation for Science and Technology from the Portuguese Ministry for Science and Education, the “MozArt 250” scholarship from the Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland, the ZKM | Karlsruhe, and from the Experimentalstudio Freiburg. He worked at the studios of the ZKM and at the Visby Composers Centre (Sweden).

He has had commissions from different institutions such as the Philharmonie Essen, DeutschlandRadio, Deutscher Musikrat, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Jeneusses Musicales Deutschland, the ZKM | Karlsruhe, the Caloust Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), and the Christoph Delz Stiftung (Basel).

He worked at the Hochschule für Musik Karslruhe teaching Computer Music and Analysis. 2010 he is Composer in Residence at the Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in Cologne and at the Villa Concordia Bamberg. He was recently appointed to teach Sound Interaction at the Musikhochschule Trossingen.
