Nedregard & Hillarys virke er basert på samarbeid av ulikheter – på PINK CUBE vil de for alvor teste sine krefter mot hverandre. De responder på Anja Carr’s «levende rom» med en billedverden som referer til mange års interne kamper i et profesjonelt og personlig forhold. Samtidig forholder de seg til motsetninger som mannlig/kvinnelig, bestandighet/flyktighet, styrke/skjørhet, finesse/råhet og maleri/performancekunst. Live performancer vil aktivisere og transformere battelen slik at den er i kontinuerlig endring gjennom utstillingsperioden.

Moray Hillary (Skottland) fikk sin BFA og MFA i maleri ved henholdsvis Glasgow School of Art og The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1992). I sine arbeidene benytter han en blanding av ulike stilistiske strategier. Et eksempel er produksjon av malerier med utgangspunkt i hverdagsobjekter som forvandles ved hjelp av maling. Ordinære materialer transformeres til dynamiske objekter og installasjoner og kan utfordre grensene for vår persepsjon. Objekter som reflekterer vår kultur, funnede eller selvlagede, endres, muteres og konteksten forandres ved hjelp av insisterende og eksperimentelle maleriske intervensjoner. Betydningslagene endres uten å bevege seg inn i det irrasjonelle. Intensjonen er å skape evokative metoder for billedproduksjon.

Agnes Nedregard (Norge) har en Master of Fine Art fra Glasgow School of Art (2005). Hun er en billed – og performancekunstner dedikert til live kommunikasjon med sitt publikum. Nedregard deler sine observasjoner av livets uforutsigbarhet og irrasjonalitet ved hjelp av et fysisk språk. Handlinger, bilder, objekter og materialer settes sammen til performancer i dialog med sted og publikum. Nedregard undersøker hvordan performancesituasjonen kan være en plattform for å synliggjøre kulturelle og personlige forutinntatte holdninger – både kunstnerens og hennes publikums. Hun investerer fysisk energi og tilstedeværelse i sine performance, mens kostymer og skulpturelle arbeider supplerer hennes drømmeaktige og poetiske billedspråk.

Battle 14: Agnes Nedregard vs. Moray Hillary er den 14. utstillingen i PINK CUBE, hvor hver utstilling er en kunst-kamp mellom to kunstnere. Det er ønskelig at disse duoutstillingene kan utnytte det beste fra både separat-og gruppeutstillingssituasjonen når det gjelder fokus og dialog. Tidligere kamper har utspilt seg mellom kunstnere som ikke har samarbeidet før – denne gangen er det annerledes. Etter 8 års samarbeid vil arbeidet til dette kunstnerparet redefineres i en situasjon der gnissingene og motsetningene bokstavelig og praktisk talt blir mer uttalt enn noen gang. Dette er første gang Nedregard & Hillary stiller ut i Oslo. Utstillingen er støttet av Norsk kulturråd og er en del av Oslo Gallery Weekend.

PINK CUBE er et lite, kunstnerdrevet visningsrom med rosa vegger, malt med en maling som inneholder kroppsvæsker. PINK CUBE er et flatstrukturelt og ikke-nøytralt alternativ til den «sterile» hvite kube og de maktstrukturer som ofte finnes der. Innehaver Anja Carr startet PINK CUBE januar 2011 med utgangspunkt i interessen for intime rom i egne installasjoner og de fruktbare kamper hun har utkjempet i tidligere kunstner-samarbeid.

Nedregard & Hillary form an artist couple who work from the principle of a collaboration of differences. At PINK CUBE they will test their powers up against each other, responding to Anja Carr’s «living spaceV with imagery referring to many years of internal battles of professional and personal relationship, while implicating wider dichotomies as male/female, permanence/transience, strength/fragility, refinement/rawness and painting/performance art. Live performances will activate and transform a subsequently ever-changing exhibition throughout.

Moray Hillary (Scotland) completed his BFA and MFA in painting from the Glasgow School of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago respectively (1992). In his work he uses a variety of shifting, stylistic strategies. For instance, practically it is possible to produce painting that finds its starting point with everyday objects and materials that are modified through paint. Ordinary materials can be condensed into dynamic objects and installations that can push the limits of perception. Items found or made which reflect our culture in simple ways can be changed, their context altered and mutated. Painterly interventions, while experimental in parts can be implemented decisively, with certitude, changing levels of meaning without arbitrariness. In essence the work attempts to create evocative methods of picture making.

*Agnes Nedregard *(Norway) holds a Masters of Fine Art from Glasgow School of Art (2005). She is a visual performance artist committed to a live engagement with her audience. Observations of life’s unpredictability and irrationality are shared through a visceral language of actions, images, objects and materials – constructed into performances in dialogue with the place and the people present. Agnes explores how the performance situation can be a platform for uncovering cultural and personal preconceptions – both that of the artist and of her audience. Her performances are invested with physical energy and bodily presence, while costumes and sculptural work add to her dream-like and poetic imagery.

Battle 14: Agnes Nedregard vs. Moray Hillary is the 14th exhibition at PINK CUBE, where each exhibition is an artistic battle between two artists. The intention is for the duo exhibitions to take advantage of the best of the solo – and the group show situation in addressing focus and dialogue. The previous battles have taken place between artists who do not have a history of collaborating – this time it is different. After 8 years of collaborating the work of this artist couple will be redefined in a situation where the frisson and contradictions is emphasized literary and practically more than ever. This is the first time Nedregard & Hillary exhibits in Oslo. The exhibition is made possible through the kind support of Arts Council Norway and is part of Oslo Gallery Weekend.

PINK CUBE is a small, artist run gallery space with pink walls, the pink paint containing bodily fluids. PINK CUBE has a flat structure and is a non-neutral alternative to the «sterile» white cube and its inherent power structures. Proprietor Anja Carr started PINK CUBE in January 2011 based on her interest for intimate spaces in her own installations and the fruitful battles she has fought in her own artistic collaborations.
