DAMO SUZUKI (Jpn)

Kenji «Damo» Suzuki was born in Japan on January 16, 1950, and is best known for being the lead singer in the legendary krautrock band Can.

Suzuki spent the late 1960s floating around Europe doing street performances, much inspired by Keruoac´s On the Road. In 1970 he was dicovered by Can members Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit outside a café in Munich, and was asked to replace the group´s former frontman Malcom Mooney. He joined them onstage that very same night, and with Suzuki in the lineup, Can produced some of its most enduring and innovative work, including classic LPs like Tago Mago, Ege Bamayasi and Future Days.

The later years Damo Suzuki has been playing live around the world with his network of ever changing «sound carriers»; using local musicians from the scene he is visiting to create a unike moment in time and space. The last time he visited Oslo, in the dark and sweaty basement of Revolver, Damo and his local band blew the heads of the audience. Hard, experimental as ever before, noisy and droney, people in the audience were grinning their way through the show. This time around, you do not want to miss out!

The band this evening – The Local Sound Carriers:

Reine Fiske – Guitar (Dungen, Elephant 9)
Daniel Meyer Grønvold – Guitar
Ted Parsons – Drums (Ex. Swans, Killing Joke)
Leon Muraglia – Bass
