Martha Rosler – “Semiotics of the Kitchen” (1975)
For his solo exhibition Das Unbehagen in der Kultur, Endre Aalrust will show relatively new and not yet shown paintings and sculptures. Endre’s art is like the art of a multiple curators open call group show – paranoid, pitiful, pathetic, poetic and passive aggressive. Visual codes and objects related to style, taste, domestic and family life are parts of his references. They’re all seen as parts of bigger structures – structures, which limit the individual’s freedom, her social mobility and access to power. He uses different strategies to decipher mass cultural forms ranging from news anchors and cupcakes to interior décor and fine art. Through sculpture, photography, painting and installation, he addresses an interest in the symbolism of love and desire, objects and actions, the coded foundations of conventional behaviour and the mechanisms at work behind cultural capital.
Endre Aalrust (b. 1973) graduated from Bergen National Academy of the Arts and is based in Berlin, Hamar and Paris.
