White on White is the artistic relationship between Iggy Malmborg (Malmö) and Johannes Schmit (Berlin). In the lecture “Making Whiteness Speak” the performing arts duo offers an insight into the development and logics of the White on White-series, launched in 2009.
 
By laying out the artistic strategies of four pieces of performance, the lecture presents White on White’s take on what has become known as “subversive affirmation”. Starting off with the specific ambition to implement Critical Whiteness Theory into the performing arts, the series by now suggests a slightly broader aesthetical approach, allowing for all sorts of unconsciously used privileges to be addressed. And hereby making the canvas speak.
 
The lecture will be held in KiT’s Seminar Room, and is a collaboration between KiT and Teaterhuset Avant Garden.
