Segments of Sediment

“There is a degree of stress – called the elastic limit – beyond which the material is permanently deformed;
that is, it does not return to its original size or shape when stress is removed.”

Galleri Maria Veie proudly presents Leander Djønne’s solo show “Segments of Sediment”. As an artist he doesn’t choose his materials haphazardly. By using granite, pine, knives, axes, and rotten timber he enables tactile communication.

Leander Djønne (1981) was born in Odda, Norway. He was educated at the Art Academy in Oslo, Bergen, Staedelschüle Frankfurt am Main and Malmö where he graduated in 2007 (MFA). Djønne has had solo exhibitions at UKS Oslo, Gallery Rekord, Landings, EL Parche Bogota. He has participated in several group shows a.o. at CCS Paris, Kunstnerforbundet, Al Mahatta Gallery, Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Projekt 0047, Bonnier Konsthall, Documenta 12 Magazines, Generali Foundation Vienna, Gallery F15 and Hannover Kunstverein.

During the last couple of years Leander Djønne has been engaged in an art practice that moves between multiple mediums–film, video, text, performance, installation, photography and teaching. This in an ongoing artistic investigation into the relations of politics, history and knowledge production. To this aim, he employs conceptual and methodological approaches borrowed from artistic and academic practices such as film, poetry, theater, linguistics, and journalism. Leander Djønne is one of the founders of the collaborative project The Parallel Action and is also involved with the artist run intiative Dortmund Bodega, Oslo.
