På okkuperte Vestbredden er situasjonen under stadig forverring, og angrepene øker fra både voldelige bosettere og det israelske militæret. Flere hundre palestinere er drept på Vestbredden og tusenvis tatt til gissel.

EXHIBITING IN THE SPACE

Zainab Aldehaimy
‘Salad – زلاطة’ is a sound work that delves into the intersection between war and childhood. This work uses sound taken from material found on the internet of clashes in Baghdad posted by US army soldiers, militia members, or civilians in Iraq from the year 2003 onwards. The work aims at reflecting the artist’s upbringing in Baghdad, where times of prayer were often accompanied by violent clashes, and therefore explores the deep-seated relationship between the sound of prayer and fear.

Note: The work will be exhibited in the space and a conversation about it will take place on the radio.

I am an Iraqi artist based between Baghdad and London. I completed my undergraduate studies in Studio Arts and Art History from the American University of Beirut, and have recently finished my Masters in Fine Art Practice at the Glasgow School of Art. I am a multimedia artist and my work is heavily influenced by my experience growing up in Iraq. It reflects on the political conflict in Iraq and offers a critique through a psychological and a personal lens. My starting point is rooted in my desire to examine the intricate relationship between visual art and politics. Through my work, I strive to create a unique visual language that pushes the boundaries of the artwork beyond the confines of the exhibition space and encourages conversation beyond the artwork. Recently, I have been experimenting with sound and producing sound sculptures. Sound played a significant role in my childhood, especially growing up in a conflict-ridden region. This has inspired me to experiment with sound as means of artistic expression.

Tumo Thamuku
Tumo Thamuku’s paintings draw inspiration from the raw energy and social commentary of Jean-Michel Basquiat and neo-expressionism. Through a vibrant mix of colors, bold strokes, and hidden meanings, Tumo dives into the complexities of modern life with passion. Working across various mediums like canvas, paper, and even recycled cardboard, Tumo builds a deep connection between his inner world and the pulse of society. Each piece acts as a glimpse into the artist’s mind, unveiling layers of emotion, ideas, and societal reflections. Always up for a bit of experimentation, Tumo loves pushing the boundaries, exploring new ways to express himself with excitement and spontaneity. Tumo also creates music, blending painting with rapping. His lyrics, like poetic brushstrokes, reflect the same raw authenticity and social critique of his visual art. His music has been released to a worldwide audience through Spotify and SoundCloud.

Note: The paintings will be exhibited in the space and Tumo will also perform some of his music on the radio.

Anders G is a distinguished force on the Bergen techno scene. He has moved between all different parts of the community, on and off stage, as well as being a forever dedicated member of the audience. As a previous club manager, he has hosted an impressive number of events, techno and rave parties, and incorporated VJ artists, perfoming art and installations. For Digital Signal, Anders G will drum up an extra set from Lydgalleriet’s depot of sounds in the spirit of the Situationists movement.

Karina Sletten
Karina Sletten is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bergen. Slettens projects involve sound as a topic, theme and material, and works with how architecture, development, planning and design is intricately imagined and created, whilst sound functions as a transversal medium. The sites Sletten researches are often abandoned, in a state of ruin, or seemingly non-functioning spaces – the aim is to unveil the actions and development that makes the world as it is today, and envision other ways of being and becoming. Sletten is educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and has held residencies at Harpefoss kunstarena, Notam, MALACATE (PT) and Bergen centre for electronic arts.

Luke Drozd
Luke Drozd is a multi-disciplinary artist working with sculpture, sound, performance, film and print. Using the processes of collecting and collage, his work looks at the forgotten and overlooked, and investigations into the tensions between different materials, processes, objects and words. For Digital Signal, Luke will select works from the Lydgalleriet CD archive, mixing and collaging them with other found sounds to create a new sound work.

Knut Jonas Sellevold is a Bergen-based artist, producer, DJ, and researcher. Knut’s work is anchored in his academic background in sound studies and ethnomusicology, with a particular focus on music education, sound pedagogy, ecology, and decolonisation. He explores these themes through his monthly radio show Vibrant Matter on Radio AlHara in Palestine and Vers Libre Community Radio in Bergen. For Digital Signal, Knut will play a special radio mix composed with selected works from the archive at Lydgalleriet.

For the past almost 10 years, Said has been a central part of the music and cultural environment in Bergen, Norway. Whether as a DJ, booker/organizer, producer or a radio host. He has lately been making his own sounds where his practice is broadly focused on source materials and the creative manipulation of their sonic qualities to create a richly textured soundscape. Primarily working with a palette of original field recordings, found sounds, narrative and music.

What is the Frame, and what does the process of framing entail in the production of art?

Framing for the Modernist was a methodological constraint to give determinate boundaries to the reading of the art piece. The inside of the frame would always indicate where the exact location of the semiotic meaning of the artwork would reside. This border would reduce, or totally obliterate, the confusion of where, and how, the meaning of the artwork was to be understood. Knowing the exact perimeters of the art piece, as detailed by the frame, was the definitive means of severing inexact and loose meanings which could be wandering about the work, but not meaningful to its sense. The frame was a clarification of the locale of meaning for the artwork.

As opposed to this, for the Postmodernist, there can be no singular place to locate the meaning of the art piece. Every artwork will operate in multiple frames each of which will be differently determinated in constructing the ideas, meanings, thoughts, and representations of the piece. A physical frame around a painting will never be able to indicate an absolute “inside” reading to a artwork, as any understanding is culturally and socially determined on multiple layers. Each different environment in which the art piece finds itself will trigger diverse framings and enable multiple readings, depending on culture, site, architecture, situation, physical supports, etc. As O’Doherty notes, starting in the modernist era: the only true stability for a art piece is by acceptance of a singular and determinate frame. The limiting frame gives up the experience as total and generates a select number of meanings for the art piece: “For this process, the stability of the frame is as necessary as an oxygen tank is to a diver. Its limiting security completely defines the experience within. The border as absolute limit is confirmed in easel art up to the nineteenth century”.

Yet, the outside begins to haunt the inside margins of the artwork as postmodernism enters the scene and the frame now begins to relinquish its hard status and becomes a fuzzy and unsettled glance. The frame, as this new era recognizes, begins to become unsettled and multiples and expands. All circumstances, situations, cultures, ideas, and locales are a “framing” of the art piece, The Frame, the inside and outside, is more a question than a boundary.

This lecture will explore the notion of the frame: how frame delimits and expands meanings in the artwork, how frame is integrated or rejects the art situation, the hidden frame of the environment, and how the idea of the frame has changed from easel painting to the new abstraction. Special weight will be given to looking at the concepts of Brian O’Doherty in his “Inside the White Cube” and Jacques Derrida’s "Truth in Painting”.

Monday Lectures is a public platform combining invited guest lecturers and professors and researchers of the faculty at KMD. Monday Lectures aim to create a diverse programme of lectures exploring a wide range of disciplines and research topics. Lectures typically take place Mondays 10:00 at the Knut Knaus Auditorium and are free and open to all.

RELEASEPARTY – SEX JUDAS FEAT. RICKY – THE BOOK OF DREAMS / AFTER SEX

Er du klar for den store katastrofen? Øyeblikket der alt rakner?
På sitt tredje album sklir Sex Judas feat. Ricky inn i et kjærlighetsbrudd av astronomiske proporsjoner.
Bandets maskoter Sex Judas og Ricky, legemliggjort av kunstner Sindre Goksøyr, går fra hverandre og følelsene males utover det store lerretet. Gjennom et dobbelt album, får vi skildret et brudd i all sin hverdagslige uhygge.

Sammen spiller de en blanding av funk, disko, postpunk, tradisjonsmusikk fra Mali og elektronika som alltid beveger dansefoten. Denne konserten er en feiring av deres tredje album, som er en todelt musikalsk affære.

I første del av skiva skildres Sex Judas’ versjon av bruddet i band-format, med musikk inspirert av det alternative 80-tallet. Tenk Grace Jones, Tom Tom Club, DAF, No Wave og reggae i en salig cocktail.
I del to har bandet laget sin mest eksperimentelle musikk til nå, i tett samarbeid med samtidskomponist Ole-Henrik Moe. Låtene som hviler på en seng av Ole-Henriks toner er flytende, vakker ambient. Med inspirasjon som strekker fra 30- og 40-talls filmmusikk, via norsk folkemusikk til Autechre og annen kontemporær elektronika.

Konserten på MUNCH er til dags dato, bandet mest ambisiøse. Med seg på scenen har de Ole-Henrik Moe & Kari Rønnekleiv på stryk og vi får servert albumets to deler med en avslutning som vi håper danser seg inn i museets historie.

Da kan du lære å tilpasse plagget slik at du vil bruke det igjen eller lage helt nye plagg ut av de brukte klærne. Du får veiledning til å få fram dine egne ideer og ønsker. Vi spretter fra hverandre deler av plaggene og setter delene sammen på en ny måte til det plagget vi ønsker å sy eller tilpasser plagget etter egen kropp og stilønsker. Vi jobber med innprøving på egen kropp. Du får veiledning i sømteknikk slik at du får et proft resultat. Finn fram brukte klær som har litt ulike stoffkvaliteter, noen tykke, noen tynne, noen vevde, noen strikka (jerseystoff eller tykkere strikkeplagg). Det kan også være kjekt å ha klart knapper, glidelåser, strikk og liknende som du kanskje trenger til de nye plaggene. Du kan også velge å kombinere de brukte klærne med metervare, ha i såfall klart stoffene du ønsker å bruke.

T-banelinje 1 Frognerseterbanen går til Holmenkollen T-banestasjon. Derfra er det ca. 15 minutters gange til hoppbakken. Det er vanligvis mange mennesker under skifestivalen, så beregn god tid.
(Under uvanlig stor pågang er siste stopp Midtstuen T-banestasjon. Derfra er det ca. 20 minutters gange til hoppbakken.)
Demonstrasjonen er lovlig og fredelig og avsluttes utenfor arenaen kl. 14.00.

BAKGRUNN
Siden 2010 har våpenprodusenten Nammo sponset det norske hopplandslaget. I tillegg til sponsoravtale samarbeider Nammo og hopperne om forskning på aerodynamikk og hoppteknikk. Men Nammos teknologi brukes primært til å utvikle våpen som dreper mennesker i krig. I oktober 2023 ankom 1800 rakettkastere av typen M141 til Israel fra Nammos fabrikk i USA. I januar i år publiserte Dagbladet bilder av israelske soldater som avfyrer Nammo-produserte M72-rakettkastere inne på Gaza. Det er et faktum at Nammo bevæpner israelske soldater til bruk i Gaza.
Staten Israel har i flere tiår drevet systematisk undertrykkelse av det palestinske folk. Den pågående krigføringen på Gaza likner mer og mer på en utryddelseskrig som idretten bør ta sterk avstand fra. Nammos sponsing av hopplandslaget kaster dystre skygger over den norske hoppuka Raw Air. Under Holmenkollen skifestival kommer Nammo-logoen til å være svært synlig på hopparenaen og på TV-bilder. De norske hopperne og deres støtteapparat bærer Nammo-logoen på ski og dresser.
Hopplandslaget og Norges Skiforbund må slutte å la seg bruke i Nammos sportsvasking!
Nærmere 30 000 palestinere er drept av israelske styrker siden 7. oktober 2023, flesteparten av dem er kvinner og barn. FN-domstolen ICJ undersøker om Israel er i ferd med å begå folkemord mot det palestinske folk. Nammo er en bedrift som profiterer på salg av våpen til Israel og dermed gjør seg medskyldige i drap på sivile og et mulig folkemord.
Idretten skal fremme folkefest, ikke folkemord!
Et stort antall palestinske idrettsfolk har blitt drept i israelske angrep. Nylig bombet Israel lokalene til den Olympiske Komité på Gaza. Nammos virksomhet er åpenbart i strid med den internasjonale idrettens verdigrunnlag. Ifølge Norges Idrettsforbund og det Olympiske Charter skal man «sørge for at idretten, i samarbeid med myndigheter og relevante offentlige og private organisasjoner, fremmer en fredelig utvikling for menneskeheten.» Krig og idrett hører ikke sammen. Alt samarbeid mellom våpenindustrien og idretten må opphøre.
Norges Skiforbund og Hopplandslaget må bryte samarbeidet med Nammo!

Johanna Knutsson skiller seg ut både på scenen, i studioet, og på vinyl med sin unike tilnærming til musikk. I en alder av 24 år byttet hun ut sitt hjemlige Sverige med Berlins natteliv, en beslutning som skulle vise seg å være langt mer enn et midlertidig eventyr.

Med over et tiår i bransjen har hun ikke bare blitt en av Sveriges fineste eksporter, men også grunnlagt to plateselskaper, UFO Station og ZODIAC 44, sistnevnte i samarbeid med Luca Lozano fra Klasse Wrecks.Knutssons DJ-sett, live-sett og produksjoner bærer preg av en idiosynkratisk stil som balanserer det funksjonelle med det uortodokse, og trekker lytteren inn i de mer eksentriske hjørnene av dansegulvet. Hennes musikk, kjennetegnet ved UFO Station Recordings, søker å nå utover de tradisjonelle grensene for techno og house. Knutsson fortsetter å utforske og utvikle musikken sin, alltid med en klar visjon og en vilje til å improvisere.

Hennes nysgjerrighet på musikkens grenser vises tydelig i hennes siste prosjekt, «Tollarp Transmissions» (Kontra-Musik, 2019), en fargerik, vakker og emosjonell ode til hjembyen sin i Sverige..

Hjelle er hjerneforsker, lege og foredragsholder, kåret til en av landets beste formidlere i Morgenbladet. Han har tidligere gitt ut bøkene Sterk hjerne med aktiv kropp (2018), Lev til du blir 100 (2020), og sammen med Tine Mejlbo Sundfør: Mat for hjernen (2021). I tillegg til å være lege, hjerneforsker, fallskjermhopper, bestselgende forfatter og tidligere toppidrettsutøver er Ole Petter Hjelle en prisbelønnet formidler.

✊ Et velkjent navn fra Oslos støyscene: VAF aka Vidar Anker Filion kan settes et sted mellom tysk 70-talls synthmusikk, horror, industri og nordisk avantgarde. Vi regner med at de aller fleste vet hvem Vidar er, men for ordens skyld; VAF er kjent fra band som bl.a Deathcrush, Årabrot, dross og Oilskin. Det blir dronete og fælt, og vi gleder oss noe helt insane!

✊ De kaller det folk-rock. En live opplevelse med Maria Orieta Band er et kall til dine danseføtter så vel som ditt hjerte; musikken deres spenner fra cumbia og ska til heartbeat folk – og alltid rocka! Bandet består av Misett Johansen på trommer, Taran Greni på bass, Liv Santos på tangenter og Maria Orieta selv på gitar og vokal.

Ingrid Stendal er utdannet innenfor grafikk og tegning fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo og har hovedsakelig jobbet med video og performance i sitt kunstneriske virke. Maleriet har nylig tatt en mer sentral plass i hennes kunstnerskap, og det har fungert som en inngangsport for videre arbeid.

Stendals kunstneriske uttrykk navigerer gjennom det eksperimentelle og intermediale, og via maleriet tar hun et steg videre for å utfordre forventninger og bevege seg utover selvpålagte grenser. Hennes kunstnerskap gir en grundig innsikt i det intrikate forholdet mellom kunstnerisk skapelse og personlig identitet.

Anne Bang-Steinsvik er en billedkunstner som jobber innen flere medier og har sitt utspring i undergrunnsscenen for kunst og musikk i Oslo. Musikk har en sentral plass i hennes praksis, hvor improvisasjon og interaksjon er viktige deler i prosessen og uttrykket i arbeidene. Dette ledet til et mangeårig kunstnerskap innen kunst og ny teknologi.

De siste årene har hun vendt tilbake til tegning som sitt hovedmedium og uttrykksform.
Et utgangspunkt for tegningene i denne utstillingen, er hvordan overveldende følelser kan føre til en form for lammelse som ligner en dvaletilstand. Temaer som sykdom og død kan spores i verkene.

Håpet ligger i hvordan frø kan ligge å vente med mulighet for fornyelse,
og nytt liv finnes under overflaten.

How is an art piece selected to enter the art world and its critical, institutional, theoretical, physical and economic circulations? What set of methodological, corporeal, conceptual, every day, institutional, ideological, or commonsensical principles are called upon to evaluate a thing and select it to be categorized as an art object? Are compatriots (other artists, friends, art-enthusiasts), galleries/museums (the staging of art), critics (conceptual/material evaluation of art objects and the field of art) or capitalists (life-sustaining imputes to the art field) more important than the supposed artwork itself, (or other factors) for selection of what constitutes art? And, maybe, more significantly is it necessary (for these methodological selections of art to occur) that these different areas of conceptual/material considerations become institutionalized structures in the art world in order that art can be recognized either socially or individually?

Exploring this operation of the art world, and the institutional/Ideological mechanisms which operate as a set of hidden and hegemonic belief systems and material spheres of art production, this lecture will examine the lineage of thought which attempts to interrogate the external controlling mechanisms circulating around the apparatus of art and seek out the possibility of art which could evade the containments of these influences.

Looking at the art of Institutional Critique, which attempts to interrogate these questions, this talk will include Walter Benjamin’s evaluation of the revitalization of art in the public arena, Robert Smithson’s ideas of “cultural confinement”, Hans Haacke’s concerns that gallery spaces “preserve [the] privilege of specific social classes”, and Andrea Fraser’s reintroduction of the artist into the “ideological mechanisms of the artworld”. Additionally, we will give a broad exploration of how the spheres of the art world, implemented in the framing of the art piece (Museum, Gallery, Curator, Artist, Studio), control the mechanisms of understanding and meaning in the art product.
